MLB Chatter Thread

It would be nice if the Rays made a deal or two. Anyone not named Archer, McGee, Longo and Souza would be solid role players for a contender and still keep our core in tact for a run next year with healthy pitching.

The Mets are “very close to pulling off a big trade,” Marc Carig of Newsday reports on Twitter. There is momentum towards a deal for a “big bat,” Andy Martino of the New York Daily News tweets. Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com first connected New York to the chase for a “big bat” earlier today. Adam Rubin of ESPN.com tweeted that the team was working on a fan-pleasing trade.

It seems as if a significant acquisition could be in the works, though it’s entirely unclear who that might be. As we covered in an earlier post, New York has shown interest in the past in Justin Upton of the Padres and Jay Bruce of the Reds, both of whom would certainly qualify as sluggers, though Rubin tweets that Cincinnati seems to be focused on moving pitching. The team is specifically said not to be pursuing the new-to-the-market Yoenis Cespedes, and prior reports indicated the same with regard to Carlos Gonzalez.

Good for them. A big market team with a small market game plan is cool for a few years when building from the bottom but at some point you have to spend the money you have and get better.

The rumor is that is for Carlos Gomez. He came up as a Met and was dealt to Minn in the Santana deal.

Rumor is Wheeler and Flores for Gomez.

Pretty good move for the Mets. Gomez has been bad this year but he is really good so have to assume he'll get it going. Might be reenergized by the trade.

He is not the so called "power bat" they were looking for, but he adds elements we sorely lacked...speed and athleticism in our every day line up. Adding Uribe, Johnson, Clippard, and Gomez is great. I did have a soft spot for Flores, mostly because I saw him in Vegas all the time. I like Wheeler, but he won't be full strength for 2 years.

A lot of reports out there saying Hamels is a Ranger. Philly gets Alfaro, Nick Williams, and Jared Eickhoff. Both Williams and Eikhoff pulled early in their games.

Now being reported that Gomez to the Mets isn't happening & will not happen before the deadline.I assume they will now turn their focus to J. Upton, J. Bruce, or Y. Cespedes?

Sadly I think the guy we get is Bruce, nice player, but we are lefty dominant.

I'm in. 3 -4 years of Hamels is going to be worth it.

Mets pulled out of the deal because they found an issue with his hip.

Someone tell me how a Phillies fan should feel about this. I don't know what to do with my hands.

Rangers gave up their entire farm system.

Don't get me wrong losing Alfaro, Thompson, and Williams hurts. I'm not as familiar with Asher and Eickhoff. Alfaro especially has been a one of those guys fans have been following through the minors for years. But one thing you can't knock Daniels on is keeping a deep a farm system and using it when he feels it helps the major league club. Ace pitchers are the hardest thing to find in baseball. Assuming Yu can come back healthy Daniels will have added a second one to his team without touching the top 2 prospects in the system. And I have no doubts he will reload the farm quickly like he has done in the past.

Be Happy. You got some good talent. Alfaro, Williams, Eickhoff, and Thompson should see the majors. For me losing Thompson stings the most.

Definitely how I feel about it from what I can tell. Seems like a pretty fair deal.
