Time to fire Collins and let Backman take over. Mets are not this bad and now the poor fundamentals are sometimes a signal that the team needs a fresh perspective.
 
Here is how bad the injury curse is going for the Rangers.

1. Lose Fielder

2. Mitch Moreland now shut down with ankle surgery.

3. They recently were working on converting an outfielder (Jim Adducci) to 1st base at AAA and now he has to see a hand specialist.

Im not a real big supporter of Wash but I do think its amazing that he has kept this team around .500 with all of the injuries and an inept offense. He may still lose his job this season and Im torn.
 
Houston obviously isn't built to make serious noise this year, but they have gone 11 for their last 15 and hit two slams today. It is fun being a fan again.

Even if they were to nosedive for the rest of the year, which is entirely possible, I can see success in the near future and all of the old fogey writers' talk about Luhnow's rebuilding process being a disgrace and unfair to the fans is feeling more and more like a distant memory.

I look forward to those days...and they built from the draft. Springer is just a freaking stud, Altuve is a player, and they were smart in bringing in Fowler. Need that pitching to develop and they have a real chance.

Appel has had a rough year. First he was sent down to extended spring training at the beginning of the year because he had trouble adjusting to the tandem rotation the organization uses in the minors, and now he's dealing with thumb problems. I hope he lives up to expectations and isn't delayed too much. The next big-ish prospect to hit the majors likely will be Mike Foltynewicz, who hits 100 on the gun (and incidentally looks a little like young Randy Johnson).

I say that Luhnow's process is being proven right, but honestly Springer, Singleton and Foltynewicz are all Ed Wade guys. It will be toward the end of this year or early next before we see Carlos Correa and/or Appel. Just so much fun having positive shit to talk about again.
 
The thing for the Mets though is that the young pitching will have to get better...it looks promising. Then young guys like Nimmo is going to have to be a big run producer coming up. The guy we took this year...Conforto...can be ready next year.

A lot of mocks had the Cubs taking him at #4 since they were pretty sure the top 3 pitchers would be off the board. They ended up going with a guy named Kyle Schwarber, a catcher out of University of Indiana who the organization felt was the best bat in the draft. Can't argue with them going bat since they felt that's where the value was (did the same with Kris Bryant last year and right now that looks like a great call), but most reports suggest this guy won't stick at C in the majors. He also doesn't look athletic enough to play OF, though they say he can probably manage LF. They have Rizzo at 1B and he'll be there for years, plus they already have a 21 year old kid in A+ ball (Daytona) named Dan Vogelbach who is a slugger that can't really play the field.

Some of these minor league bats they have are going to have to get moved in trades for pitching I think. The Mets keep coming up as logical trade partners since they have some top-end arms in their system. We'll see.

I'm starting to wonder if Javier Baez might be a guy that they trade. Potential to be a monster but his plate discipline sucks and he also right now would net the highest return in trade, except for probably Kris Bryant. Plus, they already have Castro signed long-term to play SS and a prospect named Arismendy Alcantara (was ranked as Baseball America's #100 overall prospect after 2013 season) as a 2B prospect who is in AAA and will be ready soon.

Cubs prospect 3B Kris Bryant continued his assault on Southern League pitching Sunday, going 2-for-4 with a double, home run and two RBI for Double-A Tennessee.

The home run was Bryant's 21st of the season, which ties him with the Rangers' Joey Gallo for the minor league lead. The 22-year-old slugger continues to put up monster numbers this season in his first taste of the Double-A level, as he currently leads the Southern League in batting average (.356), on-base percentage (.461), slugging (.716), home runs (21), OPS (1.177), total bases (161), runs scored (55), hits (80) and RBI (54). Gallo was promoted yesterday to AA so maybe Bryant can get some hitting tips.

I'm anxious to see what he can do. He finally got his strikeout problem under control, and that was by far his biggest weakness, so we will LT up in this mug.

All kidding aside I'm really excited to see how he does there. If he does well then I think they will do the same with him as they did with Pro far and Perez. Bring him up at the end of 2015 and just let him get used to mlb life with 2016 being the year of Gallo.

Nice that the Astros reign of sucktitude has ended so we can go right back to rebuilding with #1 overall picks. Time to trade Price, Zobrist and Hellickson and get this party started.

Just another day at the office for Gallo. First game in AA and a walkoff HR.
 
and yet another day at the office for Gallo with another Homerun. Clearly Gallo has mastered Double A ball and needs to be moved to Triple A. At this rate he will hit 77 home runs and have 39 doubles. He will also drive in 241 runs.

Oh and the pitcher they promoted with him is perfect through 4 so far.

His line for last night was 2 ABs, 2 runs, 2 hits, 2 RBIs, 2 walks, 2 extra base hits. Evidently narrowly missing a second homer and good to see the walks are continuing as well.
