MLB Chatter Thread

They are saying 2 weeks for Beltre and then Gallo goes back down. He should be at Round Rock for that series. That's worst case scenario, though.

I hear 2-3 this morning.

If Beltre is back on day 14, that's it for him. Refining his defensive skills in AAA will be too important for them to keep him around as a DH right now.

Yeah, when Beltre comes back Gallo goes to AAA. Guess I'm not following you.

They were going to promote him to AAA anyways. It just so happened that Beltre got hurt. Now for Mazara, Alfaro, and Williams to move up.

Joey Gallo first time at the plate in the Bigs - bases loaded - single to right - 2 RBIs. :towel

Joey Gallo's dad coached Kris Bryant, so pretty much GSM.

Gallo doing what Gallo does. Just dropping a Gallo way over the right field fence. :towel

So it took a Gallo to make Bryant what he is today. Awesome.

He said he was nervous before the game. Cant wait to see what he does when he is comfortable.

I sure hope the Rangers are not locked in to sending Gallo back down when Beltre is healthy...a guy like him is a shot in the arm and could push them into contention.

I hope he makes it hard on them but prior to last night JD didn't hesitate when saying it was only for the time that Beltre was injured. Will wait and see how he addresses that today.

My only concern is where to play him. You don't platoon Beltre. You give up a lot of defense if you play Fielder at first just to platoon at DH. He only has a handful of games played in the outfield. If they trusted him enough there they could move DeShields back to second and split tume in left I guess.

I will credit Banister with creative ways to any people. So far he isn't like Wash in that he will play everybody and move them around. Maybe he can find a way to get him regular playing time.

I'd make Deshields a super utility guy and stick him in LF.

Impressive game from Gallo. He is going to be a power monster for sure. Ride high off of his debut but obviously realize he'll probably have his share of struggles given his limited time at AA so far. If he does stay hot I agree with Carp though...don't send him back down. Rangers are rolling now and a bat like that in the lineup can turn a couple of likely Ls into Ws. They can find ways to get him regular at bats. Selfishly though I hope they send him back down in 15 days so that he is playing at Round Rock when I go to see the Iowa Cubs.

Eduardo Rodriguez was outstanding again today for Boston. As a Rays fan, it sucks to see another stud come up through their system.

As a fantasy player who owns him, the rich get richer. :towel

Hamilton out 3-4 weeks so there is more time for Gallo. Keep knocking them out. :towel

Steven Souza's batting average isn't great, mostly cause his K rate is super high so far. But he's probably going to finish his rookie season as a 20/20 guy. Can't ask for much more and it's better than what Myers had provided in 2 years. Another great deal.

He is similar to guys like Joc Pederson and George Springer in that he is a power/speed combo, low average/high strikeout guy. I don't think he is as good as either of those two but that isn't meant as a slight. I was fully aware of who he was when that trade for Myers went down (because I'm a baseball :geek) and I believe at the time of the trade I said that Souza had a strong chance to put up numbers at least comparable to Myers.
