Football was supposed to be my life man. From the first time I sat and watched a game I was hooked. I organized games in the street by my house every single day that I could get people to play. I didn't care if it was 2 on 2 and I had to be all time QB. I played when it was 11 on 11, tackle football on dirt fields with no helmets or pads and I was the littlest guy out there. I did it when I was the biggest and fastest guy out there too.
I dreamed of the NFL to the point that I never tried drugs. I never drank alcohol. I never smoked. I worked out every single day. All aimed at getting my shot. I walked on to a college football team and was Rudy. I look at that move now and think, I should have worked even harder. One of the worst days of my life is when Doctor Provost came in to the exam room I was in, holding my x-rays, and told me football was over for me. 3 weeks after I was named the backup FB on the team and was finally going to get to be on that field. I wanted to die. Seriously. That isn't a joke.
The guy I backed up, made it to the NFL briefly. I honestly do think I could have made it had I not got hurt. I wouldn't have been a star. I have no delusions of that. I was fast, but I had no wiggle at all. I loved hitting. I loved blocking.
Then for a time I got into coaching. It started as a HS scout. I still get asked by High Schools in Arizona to come work for them. I don't have the time and they don't have the money. I got to coach QBs for a year at the college level. It was so much fun. The point is, I know how hard these guys work to get where they are. I can't find it in my heart to dislike them the way some of you guys do. I just can't.
I'm not wired that way man.
