LOL @ the Giants

Doesn't seem like the best attribute for an off-ball LB, and this time around he won't have Downs and Styles to figure out the mental side of what's happening on the field.

I feel like Parsons is kind of the same way. It's like line up here and just go make a play. Just go play off pure instincts and don't try to make him think.

Yea and the issue with Reese, particularly being on the Giants, is that to get him on the field he's going to have to play off the ball for a large chunk of the snaps, unless they want to sit Burns and/or Carter which isn't happening.

Yeah, I mean I've always been of the opinion that you need three edges to keep everyone fresh. But when you're picking at the top of the draft, taking a pass rusher every year at some point becomes counter productive. Reese is basically a lighter version of Carter. Burns is a beast. And shit doesn't seem that long ago they took Thibodeaux, who I guess now really has no role.

I guess we will see but for a team with pass rushers already you'd have thought a guy like Downs would have been a way better pick to help take that defense to the next level.

I get them taking Reese because he was the BPA but the reality of it is that his impact is going to be diluted based on the roster they have.

If it was almost anybody else I wouldn't say that, but they are the team least in need of a light edge speed rusher when you consider what they have in Burns and Carter, on top of how light they are elsewhere in their front 7.

Needing multiple edge rushers is definitely a thing, but like WR I think a big part of that is having different body types who can do different things to complement each other. If you just have a bunch of 240-250 lb. edge rushers who aren't going to set an edge for anything, you're going to have issues as we kind of saw with the Quinn/Parsons defenses.

It's why the Gary trade has me comfortable with having two lighter edge rushers, one of which in Lawrence who just isn't very good against the run. Individually Carter, Burns and Reese are all great players/prospects, but at some point you hit diminishing returns when you keep taking the same type of player, much like if we had taken Ioane at 12.
