McCarthy is a high floor, low ceiling type in my opinion. He'd have them competitive (which I'm sure they value since they're such a shit show) but I wouldn't be overly worried since I think the game is slowly kind of passing him by.

For a team that seems to be stuck in hell and just cycling bad coaches I think he would be a great hire for them. At some point swinging for the fences and missing horribly makes hitting a base hit sound like a great move.

That's the way I feel. Will he take them to the mountain top? More than likely not. But he can get them competitive again. Something to build on. Then once they maybe get their feet under themselves again and heading in the right direction, have more of an idea how to get where they want to be and hire accordingly.
