'Duck Dynasty': Phil Robertson anti-gay sermon surfaces

I don't like it when Christians are all :lol u dummy when people bring up something in the old testament. Is it scripture or not?

If it doesn't apply to "real" Christianity, then why include it in the bible? Get rid of it, make it a history lesson and move on.

My take is that the OT is canonized because of the prophecies of the Messiah/Christ which was culminated in the NT which identifies him as Jesus. Much of the OT is history and pertains to and is unique to the Jews who were chosen to be the conduit to bring about the Christ..

Pretty much. Throughout the OT you see the unfolding of the gospel. Types and shadows of the Christ to come is everywhere in the OT. It also shows the story of mankind and how we got to now where Christianity it concerned. If you aren't trying so hard to resist the bible there are some pretty compelling things in there that points us in the right direction.
 
Plus the law was neccassary in order for Christ to come. Christ fulfilled the law completely, which made it unneccassary to continue in it. That's doesn't mean that we should flush it down the toilet. If we did that then the story would be gone.

GQ's Drew Magary sat down with the "Duck Dynasty" patriarch for a candid interview about his road to fame. The 67-year-old journeyed from substance abuse to devotion to God to small-screen celebrity, all in the backwoods of Louisiana. According to Robertson, growing up in those Louisiana backwoods in the pre-civil rights era was not bad for black people.

“I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person," Robertson is quoted in GQ. "Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field.... They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”

Maybe you shook your head over "Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson's comments about homosexuality ("Sin becomes fine. Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.") and southern race relations ("Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say, 'Were they happy?' They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues."). And perhaps rolled your eyes over his subsequent suspension and quick reinstatement by A&E after a conservative outcry, because, hey, when the First Amendment meets a reality TV millionaire, anything can happen.

Well, prepare for an eye-rolling, head-shaking extravaganza, because it turns out Phil has some very definite ideas on what a man should look for in a wife, specifically, a learner's permit and completed geometry homework.

In a recently unearthed talk he gave at the Sportsmen's Ministry in Georgia back in 2009, Robertson urges men to pluck a bride from high school, and counsels the crowd to test drive her cooking skills and Scripture knowledge.

"Make sure that she can cook a meal, you need to eat some meals that she cooks, check that out," he said. "Make sure she carries her Bible. That'll save you a lot of trouble down the road. And if she picks your ducks, now, that's a woman."

("Picks your ducks" means cleaning a bird of its feathers -- get your mind out of the gutter, people.)

"They got to where they're getting hard to find. Mainly because these boys are waiting until they get to be about 20-years-old before they marry 'em," continued Robertson, who married wife Kay when she was 16 to his 20. "Look, you wait until they get to be 20-years-old, the only picking that's going to take place is your pocket."

This generated laughter from the presumably male-dominated crowd.

"You got to marry these girls when they are about 15 or 16, they'll pick your ducks," proclaims Phil, whose aspiring fashion designer granddaughter, Sadie, is an apparently very marriageable 16. He then prudently cautions, "You need to check with mom and dad about that, of course."

Of course. For what it's worth, you need to be at least 16 in Georgia to apply for a marriage license (with parental consent). In Louisiana, a court order is necessary for females under the age of 16.
 
I'm pretty sure that folks care because we live in an extremely sensitive society that constantly attacks opposing views through social media.

It's because people nowadays are constantly looking for a victim to support. Or to be the victim themselves.
 
If you have a national platform and can beat a drum of injustice long enough you can shift the norm in this country. If someone can scream loud and long enough then you win.

All you gotta do is start using the word hate and bigot and before you know it everyone is behind you.

Essentially it is due to increasing polarization of groups be it politics, religion, societal mores or race. The situation seems to increase with each succeeding generation even though abilities to communicate improve. Society in this nation in particular is becoming more extreme and exercabates the polorazation

Of course they do because this process will favor a philosophy of protectionism and control. It lets the government dictate what the playing field will be.
