I'd rather take a shot with Jones over Gannon. While Gannon had very good defenses in Philly I don't like his tendencies. He's Eberflus part 2. Conservative, bend don't break, not aggressive. That works when you have good talent like he did in Philly.
I want a guy where the offenses reacts to what we're doing on defense, not the other way around. I think Leonhard and Jones could/would be that.
I think his year at LSU is tarnishing his outlook. Orgeron was on his way out. They didnt have the normal LSU talent on defense. I mean Damone Clark was potentially his best player. He was trying to teach NFLschemes to college kids which probably would've led to an improvement in the next year. I just don't want Gannon.
I'd have an open mind on Jones since he's a complete unknown but I wouldn't be optimistic. He's never been part of a good (let alone great) defense in the NFL until he linked up with Flores.
Often times the defenses he's coached on pre-Flores were pretty terrible. I'm not sure how much credit he deserves individually for the Vikings defenses of the past year or two as opposed to Flores.
I'd rather go with Parker who was hand selected by Fangio and has been part of really good units at different stops.
