Defensive Coordinator Candidates

I'd rather take a shot with Jones over Gannon. While Gannon had very good defenses in Philly I don't like his tendencies. He's Eberflus part 2. Conservative, bend don't break, not aggressive. That works when you have good talent like he did in Philly.

I want a guy where the offenses reacts to what we're doing on defense, not the other way around. I think Leonhard and Jones could/would be that.

I think his year at LSU is tarnishing his outlook. Orgeron was on his way out. They didnt have the normal LSU talent on defense. I mean Damone Clark was potentially his best player. He was trying to teach NFLschemes to college kids which probably would've led to an improvement in the next year. I just don't want Gannon.

I'd have an open mind on Jones since he's a complete unknown but I wouldn't be optimistic. He's never been part of a good (let alone great) defense in the NFL until he linked up with Flores.

Often times the defenses he's coached on pre-Flores were pretty terrible. I'm not sure how much credit he deserves individually for the Vikings defenses of the past year or two as opposed to Flores.

I'd rather go with Parker who was hand selected by Fangio and has been part of really good units at different stops.

He is probably my second choice to Leonhard. I'd love to have a Fangio type DC but I'm just not sure there are any established badass DCs available. Flores might be that type of guy but I just don't know that he will settle for a DC spot on a new team. Feels more like he is going for head coach or going to return to the Vikings.

I agree. I'd take Parker over both Gannon and Jones.

I'd just rather Jones over Gannon. Jones I'm sure learned a thing or two from Flores. And you know Jerry wants Gannon.

I think I agree with you. The hope is the guy learned a lot from Flores. It's sort of a boom or bust pick.

It'll be interesting what the assistants would look like with Leonhard, Parker or Jones.

Probably a college coach or two like they did on offense last year. And the teaching aspect that Schotty is looking for.

I thought I saw somewhere he was a favorite for the Steelers job. Would kind of fit their MO.

Nice to see Philly miss out on their top 2 choices for OC. McDaniel and Dabol.

Given that they were "bringing Saleh in for a second, in person interview" two days ago (i.e. they were going to hire Saleh if Tennessee didn't), you have to think this means they're going to hire this guy.

If so I think that pretty much ends any chance that Joseph gets a HC spot, and as such Leonhard will leave for a DC spot.

Kind of strange how all these teams are interviewing the same 5ish guys in terms of Jones, Gannon, Parker, Leonhard, etc.

It is amusing to see all these teams panic as they look for the next McVay.

Shocker.

Reading between the lines you could tell the "interview" with Washington was a farce and that he was just trying to drive the price up on Minnesota in the event that he didn't get a HC spot.

I'm oddly proud that our FO didn't fall into the pointless trap of pursuing him and that they could kind of read the room and tell that it was a waste of time.

I never thought he was any sort of legit candidate.

But we still have the Lite version on the line, so we are still good.

Between the severe lack of talent on defense and the perpetual Jones family clown show, he was never coming here in the first place.

Anyone who thinks Jerry would give an insolent person of color a job is fucking nuts. :lol

Is he black or Mexican btw?
If Flores would have worked for free, Jones would allow it.
