It appears according to the link that you are correct in that American and British accents were largely similar back then, but surprisingly they both sounded mostly like modern American accents, not modern British. It appears modern British accents diverged after revolutionary times.

The divergence of Boston and new York accents appear to have come later also.

I am relieved that I can resume admiring John Adams again.

Here is the fallout from #metoo and “weaponized feminism”. We are so tired of it that we can believe a negative viewpoint that is presented correctly. If true that is terrible. So she was terrorized by a group of men and then ridiculed. The tears and upset did seem kind of forced but she could have just been tired.
