Cowboys Nostalgia Thread

It has been a very long while since I've seen that Super Bowl. My opinion at the time was that the Cowboys didn't lose the game as much as they ran out of time.

Some context for the 1975 team -- Expectations for 1975 weren't high. The Cowboys missed the playoffs in 1974. Part of the reason why the Dirty Dozen happened in 1975 was that guys like Bob Lilly, Cornell Green, John Niland, Calvin Hill, Walt Garrison, and Bob Hayes left the team after the 1974 season.

1975 Cowboys finished as the 2nd best team in their division (behind the Cardinals) and were seen as the 4th best team in their conference. They had no business beating the Vikings in the playoffs, who were very strong that year. Fran Tarkington had been outstanding. The L.A. Rams were big favorites in the NFC Championship game. A win seemed quite unlikely and it was next to unthinkable that the Cowboys would blow out the Rams. That game was a thing of beauty. Landry did it with mirrors. It was pretty amazing.

Mucho props. That’s good stuff.

Firing up SB XII tonight on YouTube.

This was the game where my fanhood was solidified.

It was made better than when I watched the game live, my aunt, a total New Englander, was a fake Broncos fan for a week.

Each time they scored, she would sit up from her seat and do this weird fucking indian dance complete with yeh-yeh-yeh-yehs.

It was alarmed to me as a young child, but I soon appreciated her silence as the game progressed.

Through the first couple of series, wow, we were sloppy as shit.

Dorsett's first touchdown and the live artwork they had drawn of it really captured my imagination, and I agree, my fanhood was cemented

Efren Herrera couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, but the ridiculous Doomsday defense getting turnover after turnover and Newhouse throwing the game clincher to Golden Richards on an option pass-- Holy Shit.

Sorry to spoil the ending...

Man, I have to say, when guys were looking to sack Staubach, they had some intent to kill in their eyes.

They would club, swipe, slap, pummel and smash him a lot.

And never ever a flag.

all this story is missing is a fern

Have you arrived at the Butch Johnson "catch," yet?
Uh, no. End of the 1st Q.

Funny and weird thing, the name of the Broncos punter always stuck out to me.

Bucky Dilts.

You guys are latecomers. I don’t go back as far as LT, but watching SB IX replay was a trip down memory lane . I was well on board by then.

Staubach was picked off in the 2nd Quarter under today's review rules.

Also, Bruce Huther's fumble recovery on the muffed punt was very questionable from the gameplay footage.

It is hard to tell who it bounced off of.

We all remember Tom Jackson as Berman's friendly sidekick, but that guy was really a borderline cheap shot artist.

He would throw punches, elbow and trip folks.
