Cowboys may sign Brian Waters

“Any truth to the rumors about bringing in Brian Waters?” I have been to no.

Of course not.

We won't dare add anyone that has a chance to make the roster.

After doing some more checking My friend @SullyBaldHead is on to the story of Brian Watters. Just ran it past another source and are looking

Interest in Brian Waters indicates Cowboys prefer to play R Travis Frederick at C if they find a quality OG with Ron Leary emerging

It's really quite impossible to argue this OL is any good, so luckily for me these conspiracy theories mean very little.

We aren't talking about THIS offensive line - no one is arguing it is any good.

We are talking about the hypothetical offensive line where you replace the worst two players with solid players, and Frederick is everything we hope he is. There would be nothing wrong with a line like that.

So, like a hypothetical offensive line where we had signed Ben Grubbs and drafted David DeCastro? Sure, that would eliminate my ability to bitch about it, mostly.

But Free bouncing back from 2012 form to 2011 form, Leary being a minor upgrade, and Frederick being solid but not spectacular, really doesn't vault this OL into the "strength" category. It would merely make it not a complete trainwreck.

The scenario was, in your words: Free bounces back, Frederick is an instant quality starter, and Leary can take over one of the OG spots and play solidly.

NOT Free bounces back, Leary is a minor upgrade, Frederick is solid...but "Free bounces back, Frederick is an instant quality starter, and Leary can take over one of the OG spots and play solidly."

To summarize: Free bounces back (I took that to mean bounces back to 2010 form, not 2011 when he still wasn't very good), Frederick is a quality starter (not merely solid), and Leary is solid (not merely a minor upgrade).

I wouldn't (and didn't) say that would make the o-line a "strength" but it would certainly be better than survivable.

I was kidding about the Garrett thing but in retrospect maybe there is some truth to it. :unsure

Well, that's good at least.

Funny how his wording tends to change when he is wrong but wants to claim he was right...

The Cowboys are interested in Brian Waters but have concerns that he hasnt played in a year. Team looking at several options at OL.

The only way "I'm wrong" is when you guys tell me what I mean.

I don't see Leary becoming Carl Nicks here. If he's a non-liability, that's a win. Same for Free. And that's what I meant when I said it would be survivable, ie, it won't sink the season like the OL did to us last year.

But frankly even if Free bounced back to 2010 form, he's not that good and not a plus OL player. Leary isn't likely to be that great even if he's better than Livings/Bernadeau.

So yeah, the OL would not be in any great shape just cause those guys go from disasters to non disasters.

When a couple of them are playing at Pro Bowl level and there are no huge holes at any spot, then we can talk.

Kinda makes you wonder how good the line would have been the past decade or so if they had kept Waters when they had him.

We wouldn't have to be looking had those dumb fucks done the smart thing and signed Grubbs and drafted DeCastro when they had the chance. But no. Joan had to go on the cheap and think that a shit player and a career backup would fix the issue.

We never had him on the OL. We had him as a fullback.

I'm pretty sure he never said anything like that. That's what you call overkill and an overreaction, kind of like what Jerry did at CB in 2012.

I have no problem with the overkill approach. Building dominant units is smart.

Just not at CB with first round picks and mega free agent deals.
