How much difference does the expensive stuff make over Kingsford? I have a buddy that swears by it, but this shit is expensive.

I just stock up on Kingsford when its on sale at Home Depot, though I mostly just use a chimney full to start and then switch over to wood

I haven't found the type of charcoal to matter much. With my chimney it all lights the same and stays lit long enough for anything I need to do.

I use Kingsford and stock up when it's on sale, but really only use it for grilling and will still usually throw some wood on for a good smoky flavor.

If I'm smoking, it's all wood.

I don't care to get into the exotic world of charcoal when what I use works just fine.

Save that money for good beer and beef.

I've been smoking a lot of chicken lately and have found that it makes excellent chicken salad when we get tired of eating the leftovers.

Anybody make their own deep fried batter?

I've started tinkering with deep frying lately and have made just about the best fried mushroom slices you've ever had.

We had a little left over batter after the mushrooms were all gone so we threw some chicken legs in the batter and deep fried them.

Pretty sure I'm within one herb or spice of the colonel's recipe.

I make my own batter for awesome blossoms.

I used the same batter on a couple huge vidalia onions and it was fucking awesome.

Coriander is an underrated addition to the batter.

I don't actually make it. My wife does. I was just trying to add to the discussion, but I can google up some batter recipes if you would like.

Just add some redwood sawdust and you are there.

I've been wanting to make jerky and have a steady supply of assholes. Can you recommend a recipe?
