I'm sure they have just like they saw Javonte Williams and decided he wasn't worth a contract either.

Not saying the guy is going to be a star. I am saying that he's definitely not Quincy Carter and that anyone saying he is, doesn't know what they are talking about.

And I'm also saying there's talent there worth trying to get something out of, moreso than Joe Milton.

Yeah, I would say he tries to play hero ball too much. He did it at UNC and often got away with it, probably versus a lower level of competition.

That's not "Quinthy level type errors."

And it's something that can be coached up.

Quincy was just too dumb and that can't be coached up.

But Howell also threw for 3950 yards with the league's worst pass protection. So that's something.

The Cowboys agree with you, FWIW.

The three categories of QB you are looking for in a backup are: 1) trusted veteran, 2) young journeyman with something to prove, and 3) developmental talent-- most importantly each has a different price tag and different level of demand on coaches. If you are serious, you really shouldn't have more than one category 3 on your team. I personally don't like category 2, but it's a thing.

Milton remains in category 3 while Howell is now officially category 2.

I think Milton may never improve, but am willing to admit the jury is still out. He's not as poor as Trey Lance was, but it's like he's always armed with a bazooka when much of the time he really only needs a shotgun or handgun. No touch and poor accuracy.

Howell showed many skills during that year starting for Washington, though he also owns a lot of those interceptions. I mainly think he lacks in stature and does not directly compare well to others in-person.

What made him attractive to Seattle, Minnesota, and Philadelphia was his rookie contract and potential as a category 3, but the second they each drafted their own (some dubious) category 3 guys, they traded Howell away for whatever they could get.

So what I really dislike is heading into year 5, we only have that one very uneven year in Washington and a college career to gauge Howell by.

I always assumed the completion was more Guyton at LT vs. Bass at LG (with Smith at LT) than Guyton vs. Thomas or whoever.

We'll see, I hope this is real, but my gut tells me it's their way of trying to build Guyton's confidence while still gauging him against the possibility of moving Smith to LT and starting Bass at LG.

I'm very curious to see Guyton in the joint practices.
 


So if Smith goes anywhere it will be an emergency. Thomas is not a lot of competition honestly.

Javonte’s issue was more due to health, and even considering that he hasn’t been passed around like a 3am 2 dollar whore like Howell has.

Sure, but the point is that they can be wrong.

I think Ravi addressed it. Low pedigree, not willing to invest time after cheap acquisition, when a team drafted their own guy they went with him.

Cheap? Washington basically turned him into a 3rd and conned the Seahawks. Then he got passed around like a cheap whore from Minny to the Eagles who decided no thanks as well.
 


I dunno about you people, but I think it is super golly special we get him fatigue rest. Long season, sixteen games, blah blah blah.
