The CB's look like they have no idea what they're doing in these zones.

On the 3rd down to Nabers Bland was running 25 yards downfield with nobody within at least 15 yards of him.

And CB is supposed to be Parker's forte.

Why can't we get this defense right? Other than a couple mirage years under Quinn, we've changed coaches, just about all the players... it's still a shit show. What else can we frigging do?

Some of it is age. I looked it up, and we are the 5th youngest starting defense in the league.

All of the confusion on the misdirections and playaction tells me that these guys aren't fully understanding their assignments, which makes it all the more puzzling that we didn't think that they should get some preseason time and some live action against somebody other than their own teammates.

Not to defend Schottenheimer too much, but I'm not sure how much you can blame any HC for the first game or two when I'm pretty sure Jerry will never let them have a tough camp. And it's definitely Jerry not letting them play any starters in preseason.

Think I'm out on him, losing this game in a vacuum is whatever, but you're seeing certain things become systemic that are indicators of a poor HC.

Penalties, especially undisciplined ones, allowing the ST situation with this shitty ST coach to continue, poor in game decisions like calling a timeout before that 3rd and 5 instead of letting the clock run a bit in case we didn't convert.

I appreciate certain things about him but he's slowly starting to show why he hasn't been a legitimate HC consideration around the league since about 2011.

This is why I never wanted him for the job and why we haven't won shit in ages and why I wanted to keep McCarthy because he was the best type of HC we could hope for under the circumstances that this ownership chooses to run it's team in.

When this team finally (if ever) prioritizes football above all else, that's when we'll get a real coach again.

And until then, we'll just keep chasing our own tail.
