2026 Random NFL Stuff Thread…

Texans just picked up Kenneth Murray.

That guy was total dogshit for us last year and had one of the worst seasons by a Cowboys defender that I've ever seen.

If he goes to Houston and looks competent, that will be one of the most blatant indictments on the coaching or lack thereof in Dallas.

I'll be keeping a close eye on this one.

So here is the problem, our LBers looked like Dogshit against the Giants too. And so you may say that's coaching but Barham and Winters didn't play under the old coach. Overshown is really the main holdover who played against the Giants.

So why do the LBers still look like dogshit? It's all new coaching and new players and they still look bad? And I guess one could say but your guys upfront are the same from last year. But is anyone really going to say Kenny Clark and Williams aren't providing protection up front?

So my guess is Murray will still suck. And maybe our defensive coaches need more than a preseason and training camp where Overshown and Winters don't play a down and Barham got hurt and was pretty limited in preseason? I just think this is going to be a season of learning and improving. Because we didn't get enough of it in preseason.

Practice just is not the same as an actual game.

There’s a price to pay when you change out 8 starters including 3 rookies and never play them in a game together.

I watched a breakdown and it really was guys just not knowing what to do. LBer flipping sides during motion and not knowing their responsibility. Barham not knowing he was supposed to cover the guy in the flat. Things like that. When Joe blow can break it down pretty simply and obviously it just sort of blows my mind that these LBers don't understand where they are supposed to be. And it wasn't just Barham. It was a lot of Winters and Overshown too.

I have to say that feels to me like a complete failure on the LBer coaches part. Maybe he just thought these guys knew more than they did. But now that it's obvious they don't he needs to step up. That or Christian Parker needs to go in and sort of "help" that position group.

Or they need to simulate actual game conditions vs the offense or at least the scout team FFS.

You can’t just ask people if they understand, you need to see proof

That sort of works. Except your defense knows your offense. Your defense isn't going to make those mistakes against your offense.

But suddenly Harbaugh comes in who rans a drastically different offense and your defense has no idea how to handle it. And you might say, well simulate Harbaughs offense but it's not that easy. You're not an expert at it. You'll never run the plays at the pace that Harbaugh is able to run them. And that's why real games are just different. And these guys are only going to learn by playing against it. And of course it didn't help that Dallas really had no idea yet how that offense would be run. New OC and all that good stuff. After that game, you probably could simulate some of what the Giants did. But now you really need to simulate what the Redskins do.

Part of what the scout team is supposed to do is imitate what the opposition does best, and they had a decade plus of film on Harbaugh.

They have film on Daniels, too.

What we saw Sunday Night was a team that did not communicate and several players blowing their assignments.

I'd be ecstatic if these motherfuckers could get those basics straight!

I don't know how much of that they do during camp. And if you do, whose playbook you running. And if you do, is the scout team really that prepared to run someone else's plays?

Besides, those guys are more concerned with the Cowboys offense. They want to earn the roster spot or the chance to play. They aren't doing a deep dive into someone else's playbook in training camp and preseason.

But for instance, if you only had Cooper Rush on the team, maybe you couldn't simulate Dart.

But we have Milton, who should be perfect for showing that kind of offense.

And we acted like we'd never seen it.

I don't think it's seeing or not seeing a mobile QB. I think it's route combinations, formations and routes that put pressure on our defense and the way they determine coverages that was our biggest problem. I also think the Giants present a much more physical offense than we are used to in the past. I'm sure we didn't have a 300 pound FB out there in practice.

It's basic preparation for an opposing coach in the week leading up to a game. In the case of week one, we had a whole offseason to anticipate what we'd see.

Basing a gameplan on what the Giants put on the field last season was a very flawed approach, if that's what they did (the results seemed to indicate so).

Madden said that phrase with just as much if not with more frequency. If Aikman used the devices available to him and measured sweat on the players’ pants they would probably bitch about that too.

What a dumb thing for people to care about.

There's only so many ways that you can say something when you've done a thousand and one broadcasts.
