2026 Random Cowboys Stuff Thread...

I think this is the most heat I’ve ever seen on a Cowboys coach. I don’t recall McCarthy getting it this bad, he at least had the 12 win seasons. And social media wasn’t as frenzied as it is now, when Garrett was on the outs.

This is quite the spectacle.

I feel like Garrett, Wade, and Campo had at least as much heat at points.

He weaseled his way into the HC job because he recognized that Jerry and crew were sort of waffling on what to do, and he more or less just talked them into giving it to him from what I can tell.

I'm not going to say the name but he strikes me as a similar type.
Anyone being honest with themselves will admit this year has been far far worse.

I don't want Troy to do it anyway. Let my memories of the early 90s remain pure. Don't sully it with some ludicre that spoils the pedestal Troy Aikman resides on.
I can certainly understand that way of looking at it. He is damn near perfect in most Cowboys fan's eyes. But, I would, without doubt nor hesitation, hire him on this team in some football capacity.

Heard on 105.3, just halfway listening... I guess I missed this, but Sean Lee has an analytics company, and it's even the company MNF uses?

Anyway, apparently he said on a podcast that we'd gone from something like 28% (edit, 23%) plays of everyone in coverage doing their job properly at the first of the year (talking mental mistakes, not perfect coverage) to 60% this last game. And apparently 60% is the threshold where you can play good NFL defense.

I had an AI summarize what they said:

The actual tracking numbers they discussed are "Perfect Coverage Rates"—which measure the percentage of defensive plays where every single defender on the field successfully executes their assignment (4:34).
The exact week-by-week timeline read from the data shows the massive turnaround you remembered (4:41):
  • Week 1: 23% perfect coverage (4:34)
  • Week 2: 26% perfect coverage (4:34)
  • Week 3: (Not explicitly listed, but hovering in the same low baseline) (4:41)
  • Week 4: 30% perfect coverage (4:41)
  • Recent Weeks (Following the Joey Porter acquisition): Jumped to 51% and then peaked at 60% (3:22).

Semi-interesting?

Semi-interesting?
It's interesting, but I'm not sure I believe it. This is a "stat" that is entirely subjective for one, but two, how would adding one player to a defense make the rest of them play perfect? According the stat description everyone has to do their job. So, just adding Porter caused everyone to just do their jobs all of a sudden? Hard for me to believe.

I don't think it's even all Porter, because one of those games after the trade he didn't even play and the first game was only like 1/3 of the snaps.

Hopefully it's these dummies finally understanding their assignments and how to play them. Part of me even wonders if Pettine has anything to do with it.
