They had $2 mill on guaranteed on the line. Of course at least some of it was about money. It was probably what ultimately tipped the scales.

Yeah I'll give him that. Hell I've even given Howell props for his preseason. He was really good in the Saints game. And even before he threw that stupid INT against the Cards I thought he looked very good. I think Howell is somewhat limited physically being just over 6 ft tall but I think the guy is pretty good and has very good mobility.

Yeah my only thing about money is it's a sunk cost. It's already gone, you don't get it back by keeping one over the other. It really shouldn't factor into it but it does with the Jones boys.

Yeah and he’s still better than the crap we had at tackle, look, we just had to go import a tackle.

Maybe I actually have a clue about some of these UNC guys cause I watch them and it’s not all just homerism. Like, I wasn’t out there pumping Chazz Surratt.

Even weirder was today Schotty acknowledged that the team got calls from other teams about Joe Milton.

I'm just waiting to hear he got busted for hitting a girl or something. It really was as though Schotty had no idea Milton was going to be first on the chopping block if some fourth string RB became available.

That makes no sense to me that they got calls about trading for him. If they were willing to part with a draft pick, even a 7th for him, why wouldn't they put in a claim when he was dangling on waivers.

Makes more sense to me that they may have called with questions about his development, attitude, etc... And if the Cowboys were looking to bring him back to the practice squad, I doubt they would have gave him glowing reviews.

Only thing I can think of is a team like the Dolphins went a different direction trading for Kyle McCord after being told no. So they kind of filled the spot with a different trade. I think to some extent after the first round of cut and waivers some teams sort of feel like their roster is set. When the second round happens, how often do any of those guys get claimed?

The situation is still just a head scratcher to me. I just hope we can convince him to join our practice squad. You have to think we will need a QB as the emergency QB on the practice squad.
 
I kind of think Joe Milton isn't worth all the consternation in either direction. He looked a lot better this preseason, yes. But he was so bad last year that even with improvement you still probably couldn't put him out on the field in a real NFL game.
