You were the one saying it was a tie. Schottenheimer said twice that Howell was ahead. He first said Howell was more consistent, then he said Howell had been better.

And Howell outplayed Milton in two of the three preseason games from where I’m sitting. It’s you who is perhaps incorrect in your evaluation here.

Slightly better is still better and not “basically tied.”

The point is… the coaches thought it was close but Howell was ahead. There’s no tie. If people on here thought it was tied (and let’s be honest, no one on here was saying it was tied, they were saying Milton was ahead) then they got the eval wrong.

We can stop with the myth now that it was tied. No, Howell was better and he won.

Both were good, though, so obviously this is still subject to change based on developments throughout the season. If Milton plays way better in practice down the stretch, which is theoretically possible, things could change.

I’m not wrong. Howell won the job. Scoreboard.

Look it, this is very simple. Some dunces on here shit all over Howell because they didn’t think he was worth a damn. They were wrong and I was right. They can now feel free to admit they didn’t know what they were talking about.

Howell is a good QB who even still has some untapped starter potential. Like Milton does, in fact. Howell just has more.

I wasn’t stumping for him “just cause he’s from UNC.” I never stumped for TJ Yates, for example. Howell has talent…. that I witnessed live because I watched UNC a lot and others didn’t.

So you don't pay Pickens. Then you have to draft one probably in the first or second round. Dumbass doesn't even have a third round pick anymore.

And then guess what, you'll need to fill other needs in free agency that you can't fill with draft picks. So you then need to spend big money at OT or corner or somewhere else. You're just shifting the resource from money to draft pick and draft pick to money. It's a dumb thought process.

No that was the one today, after they cut Milton.

I'm talking about the one yesterday. Schotty had his big conference yesterday and then another one today. I drive a lot for work so I listened to them while I drove.

Which is why I said it was weird timing.

"Prior to waiving quarterback Joe Milton III, Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer emphasized during his Monday press conference that the backup quarterback battle between Milton and Sam Howell was "neck-and-neck" and that the final decision remained highly fluid."

Not sure why you're turning my post into something it wasn't. I was just pointing out that Schotty said neck and neck and then within that hour they cut Milton. It's weird timing that makes for a weird situation. It was like Schotty had no idea at that moment he was going to cut Milton. It was weird timing. Hell they even asked Schotty at the PC who was getting cut to make room for the RB and Schotty mentioned they had to make the decision in the next hour or so.

As far as potential, there is no question in my opinion Milton has more upside. Bigger, better arm, harder to tackle and a better runner. Howell looks small out there. When pressure is in his face his lack of size is very noticeable in not being able to stand in there and deliver the ball. But that's because he is 6' tall. It's not easy at that height.

And despite their relative ages Howell is going into year 5. Milton is going into year three. So yes I think Howell is closer to maxing his development than Milton.

With all that being said, I think they leaned more towards the guy who has more experience. Most NFL teams do.

I listened to the full interview and that snippet was kind of out of context, he was just kind of riffing on the roster and trying to win right now.

But unless Pickens is pushing for 40+ it'd be ridiculous to let him go, his cap hit this year is already 27, if you sign him to a 4 year deal you won't get a cap hit that high until probably year 3 when all sorts of highly paid guys right now (Clark, Steele, Ferguson, etc.) will likely be gone.
 
It wouldn’t surprise me if Milton is brought back onto the 53 eventually cause he did really progress from last year apparently.

Nope. He has "called it" on many other UNC players, too. So, him getting this one doesn't even move the needle for me.
