Yea I think the Steele thing was more about saving cap space now to add other players based on the assumption that he'd be around this year and next either way.

Maybe he's regressed more than they expected in the meantime, or maybe they're just being more aggressive about upgrading the weakest starter on the team.

Is he doing it on purpose though? I get the feeling he says dumb things because he isn't that into sports and just isn't that informed. He's there because he has a good radio voice.

Anyway, this is a good example. Milton was here for two years. Dawson makes it sound like we traded the pick for him then waived him the next week.
 
Also, Belt is saying he was told Milton was "focused on the wrong things."

Maybe they just didn't think his attitude or focus was good enough. In which case I'm all for it, as with Blue or anyone else. We've had way too much of that around here for way too long.

I dunno, there seemed to be times where he would ham things up in games. Little things like pointing at the camera. The professional optic seemed to be missing.
 
In regards to Steele, I'm glad that this team finally realized that this guy simply isn't good enough.

I get that the guy that they brought in to compete with him brings a lot of uncertainty himself, but at least they're doing SOMETHING.

So while we may not necessarily get an upgrade at the position this year, I think this move makes it obvious that Steele will not be an option for us in 2027, and that is something we can all be happy about.

I think that's revisionist history. All reports were the guys attitude was pretty loved in Dallas.

But right now people are lying so it's impossible to know what's true. If we had teams calling for a trade and didn't trade him, cutting him the next day makes zero sense. Obviously we knew we were going to bring a RB in.

One second his attitude is awesome, the next he didn't. One second it's basically a tie for backup QB, the next he is being cut.

All we really know right now is that there are a ton of rumors but no one knows which are the truth. The whole thing kind of smells weird. But if he clears waivers and signs to the practice squad it clears a lot of this up.

It was in all likelihood, but there is risk to exposing him to waivers. You saw the desperate behavior at the QB position. Some teams are keeping four of them, of which one or two are schlubs. Exposing him is a risk.

Yeah I think the Cowboys are banking on the idea that other teams have sort of already moved on. You want Milton, you're told no, so you trade for McCord for example. Now a team like that isn't going to cut the guy they just traded for or signed because they are shocked by Milton now being on waivers.

But there are also savy GMs out there that wouldn't give a shit and can adapt on a dime. Your risk is one of those GMs sees the value and doesn't care about some special teams scrub that they have to cut to make room.

Guy gives you a lot of what Hurts does for example. You think the Eagles care about swapping some guys around?

Yep, unless Pickens is gone RT (or OT in general if they consider shifting Guyton) will almost certainly be the top need in the draft.

Might still be even if Pickens walks.

Yeah you could be right. It could just be ignorance, but the way he talks just comes off as he knows what he’s talking about.
 
Needs in order:

CB1 - Position missing, short of Revel transforming. Feels like we have multiple CB2's
OT - Guyton inconsistent, Steele not good, Jones' caps might be swing
RB1 - Even at age 26, Williams feels tenuous the way he slowed throughout 2025, Davis is subpar depth
DT - Clark is getting old, you need to inject depth and a future replacement
QB - Dak is 34 in 2027 and will be effective to 37 or 38, need a strong backup during those older and injury-vulnerable years.
TE - Ferg is good, and Hyphen is a very good blocker, but there's room to improve
S - Downs is a Nickel, not a true safety in Dallas' scheme which feeds ST's from safety depth

Of course if an EDGE1, DT1, or QB1 falls to you, you take him, but where I think Dallas will be drafting those players are long, long gone.
