2026 Random Cowboys Stuff Thread...

We aren't going to do anything significantly different but I'd imagine we'll be aggressive like we were last year, just in a bargain shopping way.
With budget FAs from the Broncos, Steelers or Eagles.

I know there is chatter about trading for Steelers OLB Nick Herbig. My first response is with what?

Love the player but pretty impossible without a second or third round pick. I doubt the Steelers want to just give the guy away. He is a young up and coming player who looks like he could break out as a double digit sack guy if given the opportunity.

So a trade proposal Bobby Belt (who I can't stand) threw out... If you can't sign Pickens, GP for Alec Pierce and a second.

Welp, just looked up Pierce's contract, and he's a UFA this year. Wonder if Belt even knew that. Surely Pierce isn't good enough for them to franchise.

Makes me wonder what Pierce would get on the open market. He'd actually be a good #2, but as usual it all depends on the money.

Pierce would thrive with Lamb. #2 deep threat is his game.

Pierce is probably going to get around 20/year, I'd rather just pay Pickens the difference and have the elite player.

But would he thrive without Lamb. Because Pickens did. And ultimately that's my biggest concern. Being one injury or one bad game out of Lamb from having no chance in a football game. Pickens changed all that.

I like Pierce but he isn't Pickens. He is a nice WR. A good guy to have as a #2 to Lamb. But I guess I'm a bit greedy after seeing Pickens in our offense. And right now the best we can hope for is mediocre on defense. I'm not going to shoot for a worse offense in hopes of getting the defense to mediocre.

Let's pretend we have a semi competent FO for a second.

I'd rather sign Pierce and use savings to beef up defense.

Ok, back to reality.

We sign Pierce, and get another white LBer.

You tell me we go get a legit pass rusher, LBer and starting corner in free agency and I might be ok with it. But we aren't going to. And you've traded a star player away for a good player in the process.

A star player for a good player who isn't a knucklehead, plus a lot of money to spend on defense.

How much money did you really free up though. Pickens cap figure assuming he signs a multi year deal will be what, like 18 mil? Maybe you get two decent free agents? Or one stud free agent?

And oh yeah Peirce isn't coming that cheap either. So take his 10 mil cap hit or whatever off that.

It can’t be measured like that. It’s a matter of negotiating shrewdly on ever deal so that the accumulated savings translates to several extra players you might not have been able to afford otherwise

I think the way we do contracts is stupid.

But I also think people have a severe misunderstanding of the cap and the ability to spend.

I won't believe Pickens will be signed until he is.

They can deny it all they want, but I'd be a lot there are hard feelings between that agent and teh Jer.
