2026 Random Cowboys Stuff Thread...

Here is the thing. Pickens is younger than a number of dudes in this draft. Guys who could go in the first round. You tell me you can get a 24 year old WR who is a top 5ish WR in the NFL? Why wouldn't you give up a first for that?
Apples and Oranges to most NFL GMs.

A draftee would be super cheap by comparison, even in their option year.

Pickens and a draftee are no where near the same thing.

Pickens is a huge asset though, so if you are one player away or are in a window like the Cowboys have with Dak you have to consider it— in addition to your own pick

Most teams don't stress over the cap the way the Cowboys do.
Very few people are willing to give up 1st round picks for this reason. Otherwise teams would be trading for other people’s stars all the time.

They don’t because that 1st round pick is likely a cheap impact starter. You can’t get that with a Pickens, and yes, everyone cares about the cap. Except maybe the Eagles who routinely borrow from the future, but they’ve done that to capitalize on their Lane Johnson window.

Plenty of teams effectively don't care about the cap. The saints have been well over the cap since Drew Brees was a toddler for example.

I think also you're underestimating how valuable a guy like Pickens is. Plenty of teams in win now mode would far rather have Pickens than a 1st, who is a guaranteed to of the league performer as opposed to a roll of the dice.

My biggest hope for the 2026 season is that Schotty finally admits he's a raging homosexual unlocking his latent coaching superpowers because he isn't afraid anymore.

My gaydar does not flip when I pay attention to him. His father liked to touch people too.

But thanks for the weird ass thought bubble.

I think it was a Stranger Things reference. One show that almost no one here probably watched.

I could see him on the sideline this year dressed like Freddy Mercury.
