2026 Random Cowboys Stuff Thread...

A first and a third and the savings invested in good defensive players would be a huge win for an amateur like Jerry.
It would be a huge win for anyone. A one-year rental turning a third into a first and a third would be great.

Diggs also had a string of injuries and scheme changed as soon as he signed a new deal, that's a risk you just have to take.

My only concern with Pickens is him "going off his meds" but as long as Dak and Lamb are around I'm comfortable that he'll more or less stay in line.

I agree with all this too. And I think Pickens has a competitive physicality that Diggs never had. Pickens wants to dominate guys on the field physically. I don't think he is just doing it for the big pay day.

Here is the thing. Pickens is younger than a number of dudes in this draft. Guys who could go in the first round. You tell me you can get a 24 year old WR who is a top 5ish WR in the NFL? Why wouldn't you give up a first for that?

I'd do Pickens for a 1 and 3 if you guaranteed me these idiots would spend the cap savings on a few starting caliber FA's but obviously that's a big stretch.

Just the money.

I keep Pickens if at all possible. With him we are a top 3 WR corps. Without him we plummet into the 10-15 range at best. We also have so many needs on defense and so little draft capital that I don't want a glaring hole on offense going into the draft as well, mainly because I don't trust these football inept fools to do jack nor shit in FA.

In the 2025 Random Cowboys Stuff thread there were just over 6,000 posts. I posted in that thread 63 times. That's pathetic. So, I vow to you, my brothers in pain, to never allow myself to get that apathetic again.

First thing's first... You know what you gotta do.

Gotta ditch that defeatist, poor little me catch phrase. 'Let the bullshit continue'. I mean... Read it. Absorb it. LET the bullshit continue. It's like you're hoping for it. Just so you can say you were right and can continue to wallow in your misery.

Yeah, so we haven't won shit in forever. Even so, there are good things that happen in every season to watch. Sure, while watching the defense go up in ashes and taking our season along with it, there were still things good. Watching George Pickens surprise all of us. Seeing the rebirth of our running game. Watching Dak put up one of his best seasons even while still hearing opposing fans and retarded Cowboy fans claiming he's an awful QB. And plenty of other things if you're just willing to look.

We might not ever win another Super Bowl trophy in our lifetimes. Or we might. That's the beauty of sports. And when one finally comes along, it makes it all the more sweeter. Being a Texas Rangers fan, you should know exactly what I'm talking about here. When the Twins won 2 in 5 years, I was on top of the world. They have yet to reach another World Series since '91. But I still watch every year. Hope springs eternal.

People can call me a homer all they want. Why? I don't claim that we are better than we are. I call a spade a spade. If we are shitty in certain areas of the team, I'll call them out. I just don't feel the need to repeat it 20 different ways, 20 different times each and every day. Sports are entertainment. I get upset when certain things happen. Either off the field, or on it. But then I let it go. Because I have no control over what happens. I don't let it ruin my day. Control my life. If that makes me a homer, then so be it.

Oh well. Enough of my homer rant. Either way, glad to have you back.

Ok, I know if we don’t keep George Pickens that we’d have lost a 3rd round pick (though Pickens’ performance in 2025 by itself was worth a lot of the pick all by itself)

But 1) that money could be used to bring in multiple solid veterans on defense and 2) what if we get a whole lot more Detroit George once he gets paid?

He’s no CeeDee, at least not between the ears

If we could be sure we’d be getting mostly more of what we saw in 2025, you have to think about it seriously

I'm not quite sure what you're saying here but to answer your questions specifically...

1) we don't need Pickens' money to sign multiple solid veterans on defense, and 2) we have to take that chance because we can't focus on fixing the defense if we're also burning resources getting the offense back to what it was.

With Pickens, I alternate from WE HAVE TO SIGN HIM, to oh, this motherfucker is off his meds again.

He's a little like TO in that regard. Talented player that requires a bit more maintenance than you'd like.

As long as he plays like he did last year he's worth it.

Hell, very few WRs are choir boys.

Look at the Steelers, they got sick of Pickens and replaced him with Metcalf, who proceeded to get himself suspended two games (and nearly cost them a playoff spot because I'm guessing they'd beat the Browns with him) for accosting a fan. Meanwhile Pickens had 1400 yards and Metcalf had 850. You think the Steelers wouldn't rather have Pickens right now?

Just manage him the best you can and take your chances on talent.

Good post. I call a spade a spade, too. And this year, after the offseason we had before the season started, I was at one of the lowest points ever in my Cowboys fandom. Couple that with the apathy/laziness that naturally came with being a fucking drunk I let myself slip into a place I haven't been probably ever as a fan of this team. Even during the CFR days I still talked about the team. This last year I allowed my give a shit level to plummet. It's not fair to this board and certainly not what you would expect out of someone who owns a fucking Cowboys message board. This will all change from here going forward. I am back, baby!

I strongly disagree.

Pickens carried us last season at times. The stretch where Lamb was hurt and then struggling Pickens was dominant. You can't take Pickens off this team and just roll on offense. He was a massive piece to the success we did have last year.

We all want a better defense but if you dump Pickens to build the defense you're just moving pieces on a sinking ship. The only way I can justify it is if you get something big in return for Pickens. Something big enough that you can use it to build the team beyond just "freeing up cap"

And mind you an extension for Pickens won't cost 30 on the cap. We all know how it works. You give him league minimum and then a signing bonus. He ends up costing like 10 mil against the cap. So wohoo to those big savings. You just might save cap in 2027 or 2028 or 2029 that is bigger.

Yeah I wouldn't trade him for just a first. You'd just be hoping to get a guy reasonably close to as good, all in the name of saving money that they won't otherwise use anyway.

If we got a first AND a third that's different, now you're getting potentially two good players for 1.

Yeah then I can suddenly get two starters. And I'm a big fan of Tyson in the draft if he somehow slips to 12. And part of me wants to draft Brazzell 2.0 just because his daddy played here and he is sort of a freak.

But the key is with that third round pick I think I can nab a starting safety or LBer on defense if I'm smart about it. Or hell even a damn good nickleback.
