2026 OTAs and Minicamp Thread...

I will not apologize for getting half sucked.
Listen to the PC today where Schotty mentions Super Bowl several times and Cotton's fave Jane asks about his advice to the brides (Overshown just getting married) and BS almost cries and it'll fix you.

Nevermind, ya cunt.

I think he's probably the biggest liability on the team right now, beyond the general organizational nonsense of course.

If the stupid penalties and lazy fumbles get cleaned up I'll start to let my mind wander a bit, but even if we're like 8-3 I won't be overly confident if they're still doing absolutely braindead shit like false starting inside the 5 every other week.

You think Schottenheimer is the biggest liability on the team? I'm not sure I'm understanding your post correctly.

If you are referring to Schottenheimer, I'll say that I'm not sold on Schottenheimer and I wouldn't argue someone saying he might be the biggest question mark, but you can't convince me that he's a bigger liability than Steele, Sam Williams, maybe Guyton and maybe Ferguson.

I mean we are talking liability. Sort of like a bad starting QB is a bigger liability than your fifth corner. No matter how bad that fifth corner is. We are talking head coach. Basically the top dog on the team.

It's not just about how bad the person is. It's also about how important the position they hold is. But honestly, I think the importance of your head coach can be minimized if you have a killer coaching staff under him.

I'm mostly kidding about the pc, I don't really take too much from those. But if I'm picking, I felt like that first pc this ota season he seemed a little more mature. Yesterday he was more like last year, a little too blackslappy with the media, kind of goofy, crying when talking about his wife, etc.

At least he seems to have picked good coordinators, which obviously is huge.

As far as navigating the team through a tough season when playoffs or better seeding is on the line, that's yet to be seen.

This is what I'm getting at.

I think the OT's are probably the biggest issue personnel-wise, but if the HC can't get the team to stop doing braindead shit (false starts inside the opponents 5, continuously fumbling trying to gain an extra 4 yards, etc.), that's a much bigger issue.

what would you all consider the best case scenario, for the type of coach Schottenheimer could be? (i'm mainly referring to personality)

Pete Carroll?

I mean, the eagles proved you can work around a HC. Not that a great HC isn't an enormous benefit but it's not everything.

But my point is we don't actually know about Schottenheimer so I'd agree he's an unknown but we absolutely don't know if he's a liability yet.

That defense was so bad it's really hard to judge Schottenheimer based on last year other than his choice of DC was bad last year but we're not even sure he had much say in that

We know.

Choice of ST coach as well.

Technically you are correct that its not fair to judge him on a season where the defense was so bad. Add in not only trading Parsons but so late in the process as well.

My issue with him was that he seemed to let a lot of things go that top tier coaches obsess about, and even said this offseason that they didn't focus much on ball security last offseason.

When you combine that with sort of his general demeanor I think it's something to keep an eye on. He could easily turn it around and it may have just been a blip, but if not I could see him being the type of HC who just isn't capable of whipping his players into shape the way a SB contending team needs to be.

It's all very circumstantial but it's something I'm keeping an eye on early in the year to see if the same dumb mistakes keep happening.

Pete Carroll?
Yes, his mentor (other than dad).
