2026 Draft Week Chatter Thread...

Genius negotiating by Rosie. Threw in a 7th round pick on the house when they already had a done deal. :picard

That's not what I'm hearing.

Stephen said "our 7th next year?" Then Roseman said something that's hard to hear but presumably they asked for a pick this year because Stephen responded that basically they're done giving up picks this year.

Then Stephen said "I'll throw you a next year's 7th."

THEN Roseman said "Ok, we got a deal."

Roseman hadn't agreed to anything prior to Stephen throwing in the 7th from what I can tell.

Jones mentioned the seventh next year, and then Howie suggested something else involving this year's picks, and Jones said "No, we can't give up anything this year," and they went back to the seventh next year. If we called them about the trade, than I can see us throwing in the 7th, but if they called us, then it's a slight overpay.

It might be a slight overpay but that's different than saying we gave them a free pick after a deal was already agreed to. That certainly doesn't seem accurate.

The director of college scouting LaPoint said they had 12 first round grades and that it's usually 12-16 each year.

Based on how he described it, if I had to guess they were:

The top 6 defensive players (supposedly Bain would've been the pick if Downs was gone so I assume Bain was one of them)
Love
Mendoza
Tyson
Ioane (logically he'd be one given how similar he is to Booker)
Tate

Not sure who the 12th might be but probably one of the OT's.

At least they aren't giving us total bullshit and claiming he was #1. 4 is very believable given what I think our DC wanted in a DB.

Yea the interesting point to me is that they probably had him over Styles. I'm sure it was very close and that Styles was probably right behind him at 5, but that was one of the main things I wondered about in the lead up to the draft.

If they were both on the board when we were picking I'd have taken Styles because of how big of a hole it was, but I think Downs may have been the better prospect by a very slight margin. It was basically a tie for me and positional need would've won out.

Obviously that scenario was never going to play out, but that's how I was thinking of the two.

For ILB or Safety to be the pick in the top 10, the player has to be transformative. Downs’ value is as a leader, communicator, nickel CB, tone setter, and safety in that order. That’s too much value to ignore, especially for a DB whisperer like Parker.

I don’t see Styles’ value short of his becoming Ray Lewis/Brian Urlacher and/or extra special at blitzing.

He’s prolly closer to Urlacher who could erase TE’s in coverage, given Styles’ history at safety.

Washington screwed themselves otherwise taking Styles at 7 when they could have had a starting 1 or high 2 WR for the next five years. You have to take impact players almost exclusively at impact positions in the top 10, and while Styles is an athletic freak, he’s not playing an impact position. He’s no Micah Parsons, sorry.

I think Styles was worth a top 10 pick in this class but for a team with a roster as weak as Washington it feels kind of weak.

I think Quinn is just desperate/embarrassed with how bad their defense was last year and Styles is the exact type of LB he loves in general, so he pushed for it.

But I do think the impact of a really good LB will be diluted given the rest of their roster.

My guess is that Love, Bailey and Reese were the top 3 in some order.

That pleases me. Reese needed to be in that spot. I have a funny feeling about his IQ. The Parsons mold is what they are chasing and I don’t think he has the mental capacity.

And I am saying that I believe that Reese is an even duller blade.

The intelligence is one thing but intelligence isn't what made Parsons the player he is as an edge rusher. The bigger issue is that it's just exceedingly rare for a 240ish lb. guy with mediocre length to be such a rare athlete that they turn into one of the best edge rushers in the league.

Maybe Reese is that rare a guy, but I'm betting that he probably isn't, in which case he'll be playing more traditional LB where the lack of intelligence becomes a bigger issue.
