2026 Draft Week Chatter Thread...

If Klayton Adams is on board, I'm fine with it. Not so sure about the OL coach or what difference his recruiting the player would make, but if Adams strongly approved also, I feel okay about it.

Yeah someone was saying that Riley recruited him at Kansas State so there was definitely some love for him in the building.

I am leery of it, but it appears he was endorsed by figures of respect.

I don't think it was a ridiculous reach, I just would've went elsewhere if it was me.

I wanted a developmental OT though and if that's who they like, so be it.

Yeah I don't think its a reach, at worst he was a fourth/fifth round prospect but most had him as a third/fourth round type. I just am not a big fan of the player. Meaning I wouldn't have had him as a fourth round guy I wanted. I wouldn't have wanted Bell in the third either for example. Even though he went in the third to the Eagles.

I really really don't like Bell. I would much rather have done it the way we did than what they did.

I wouldn't have wanted Bell with our fourth round pick and the Eagles took him with a top of the third pick. Fun fact ESPN had Shelton ranked substantially higher than Bell. Me I hated both.

There were a lot of OT picks in this draft I would not have done. I feel like teams throw picks in the trash because they feel compelled to take an OT. I think it was a badly over drafted OT class.

Will he be as good as Chuma?

Impossible.

Failed pick.

Yeah, I get why some don't love the Lawrence pick. They were late to the party. What I would question is, who did you like better at pick 23 for the Cowboys that would have made things better? If you say, well they should have taken Mesidor at 20 and not traded down, I'll take Lawrence, Moore and LT Overton over that any day. But I'd also take Lawrence over Mesidor because of age, fit and all that stuff. Nothing personal against Mesidor just my opinion.

But if you go off of pick 23 who should that Cowboys have taken that would make the pick an A+ pick? Certainly not Concepcion, Thieneman, Rutledge. Those guys are not at positions we would have taken. So next possible player would be Chris Johnson. But where is he playing? He isn't playing the nickel over Downs. I guess you could argue he is better than Bland and/or Revel. But I think the Cowboys think higher of those guys than to replace them right now. So Chris Johnson at that point is just insurance for Bland/Revel not being good.

Next defenders are Peter Woods and Keldric Faulk. And I'm sure if we picked Faulk or Woods they would grade it better. Because these are two players that have gone in the opposite direction. Before the year, potential top 10 picks. By the end of the year they were late firsts. They were basically going in the reverse of Lawrence. But I'll bet on Lawrence over both of those guys.

Anyway, I think those that rank the Lawrence pick as a reach really just don't know Lawrence that well and don't understand the fit for a 3-4 scheme being perfect. And I get it, before the season no one was talking about Lawrence as a first round pick and so they were late in recognizing that NFL teams did view him as a first round pick.

The big issue is that 20 (and 23) was just kinda a dead zone if you didn't want another DB. And we didn't (and shouldn't have).

The players in that range were all the same well into the 30s.

I would have liked to have moved down one more time, and I think we probably could have without a serious risk to losing Lawrence, but that's a small complaint and I'm not going to nitpick that.

Bigger issue is that we should have taken Bryce Lance instead of Shelton at that first 4th rounder.

And perhaps Malik Muhammed over Moore.

And then Diego Pounds (4th round grade) over the 7th round WR.

With those changes it's an A+.

I'm not sure we could have. We sat at 23 and I think the Bills would have taken him at what, 26? With Lawrence off the board the Bills bailed on their pick.

I think we could have traded down again had we not been fixated on Lawrence, but as you say Buffalo might have snagged him.

Bottom line if we fans can see how he's a supposed second round prospect who pops off the screen and plays so effectively as a pass rusher, at least one pro team is going to grab him earlier than you thought.

So I'm OK with Dallas doing what they had to do and still getting two 4th round picks.

I told folks with these WR's, CB's, Edge rushers, and OT's we would be able to trade down at either 12 or 20, and we did.
