2026 Cowboys Draft Chatter Thread

Give me McNeal-Warren or Thieneman there and I feel like they will have a legit impact.
I admit I'm secretly rooting for Hyphen Safety. I like his all-around game and physicality, which can get lost a little around combine/testing time.

Harris seems wrong a lot. Pretty sure he was adamant Schottenheimer wouldn't be the choice, among other things. Maybe he's improving with more experience, who knows. But he hasn't been very accurate on things.

He definitely was adamant that it wouldn't be Schottenheimer.

I think the team uses some of these fools as useful idiots, sometimes feeding accurate information but mixed with plenty of inaccurate stuff.

Harris and Slater are the two big ones who love to portray themselves as serious insiders but they are very hit or miss. Archer usually is the one with the best sources and then maybe Machota after that, but they're very measured in what they say.

I also have zero respect for any of them given how transactional and extractive the whole ecosystem is, but I'll read their tweets when they get posted here because it's one data point amongst many, even if usually flawed.

Yeah, the ones who actually hear stuff seem more reserved. David Moore was probably the best at that. He'll tell things on the Ticket literally on the night of the draft that I haven't heard before. I'll check in tomorrow night to see if he's doing his Wednesday show.

For the record, the reason I'm so bullish on possibly moving up a few spots from 12 is because we have 20 to recoup picks, which is a spot that's looking like the beginning of the point in the draft where the talent starts to flatten a good bit for 20-30 picks.

Maybe someone like Thieneman drops, but if not and we're picking between Hood, Johnson, Cisse and Ponds at 20?

We can get one at 35, same for Rodriguez, Hill and Allen. Same for Parker, Howell, Mason Thomas, etc.

If I can go up from 12 to 8 or 9 for just 92 to guarantee Downs, Bain, etc., I'm happy to do that knowing I can probably recoup at least a 4th if not a 3rd by trying to move down from 20.

It's no guarantee but a shrewd front office could definitely pull it off with some advance planning.

He does? Holy shit.

Yeah was listening on my drive to work and he has Styles like 16 but Hood as like 13. I get being different or unique but that guy is an idiot. Imagine he used to run a draft room. Welcome to why NFL teams make stupid picks.

I had to check to make sure I wasn't listening to something from 5 months ago. Nope it was from this morning.

It's just stunning to me that he has such a following. I guess being one of the first in the dfw media to really do it gave him a head start. But that doesn't mean he isn't a moron. And he's kind of an a-hole when he lets the mask down.

He's probably one of the reasons the team had the reputation as being CB obsessed in the 90's/00's.

I stayed next door to him in a hotel one time and he's just as arrogant as you'd think, I was just thinking, you know one of the GOAT NFL minds shit canned you as soon as he joined the organization right?

Everyone he is on the radio with treats him like some legend, and he has this massive head where he thinks he knows more than others. Drives me nuts. But if I'm being honest I listen to him because he is part of all the Cowboys draft stuff. Still crazy to remember when Brugler was on the draft show. God I always loved listening to his takes.

Sure, a "former scout" holds a lot of weight amongst idiots in the media who barely know what they're looking at.

But the reality of it is that scouts are kind of a dime a dozen, the guy who unearthed Damon Harrison for the Jets as a UDFA was a high school principal in like Kansas or some shit 5 years later. The rank and file types come and go unless they rise to the level of a GM or "build" relationships across the league to keep themselves employed. That's part of the reason McClay literally never goes (and never will) anywhere else even though he's not technically the GM.

The relationships matter more than some random scout having a good eye for talent because the league is that incestuous.

But my point is that just because someone was a scout, even for a long time, doesn't mean that they have some 6th sense for talent and that's even doubly true the longer they've been away from the game.

I'll listen to Bill Polian because he was an amazing GM for a long time, but some area scout who has been "scouting" from his couch for the last 20 years?

Please, I wouldn't give any more credence to their opinion than yours, and with a known moron like Broaddus I give his even less.

Its the Browns swap everyone talks about just in two parts.

You trade up with the third. You trade down at 20 and presumably recoup the third or better. Honestly there are going to be desirable players at 20 worth trading up for in my opinion. Just not sure they are at a position the Cowboys desire. I think there are a lot of OT's that could go in the 20s. There is a pretty distinct cutoff at WR that could happen around 20. A team may want to go up for the second QB in this draft. Could also be a spot for a team wanting McNeal-Warren or Thieneman.

But if you're hunting corner its a great draft to move down from 20. Probably pass rusher as well. And I'll be honest, I don't mind if we trade 20 into the second round if I get great compensation. The fifth year option sounds awesome but I don't know that its as big of a deal as it's made out to be. Maybe except for QB.
