2026 Cowboys Draft Chatter Thread

Blake Miller is interesting.

After taking a quick look, why isn't he ranked higher? Very good athlete. Looks like he moves really well.

I think he's generally considered a late 1, around 25ish. A guy who is RT only usually doesn't go much higher than that.

NBC's latest:

12. Dallas Cowboys

Mansoor Delane, CB, LSU

The CB1 debate is heating up and the Cowboys might get the deciding vote. Corner is a glaring need for them, but they were burned by taking a corner coming off an ACL tear in Shavon Revel Jr. last year. I doubt they run back that bet with Jermod McCoy, giving Delane the edge here.

20. Dallas Cowboys (via Packers)

Keldric Faulk, EDGE, Auburn

The Cowboys are a team that could spend all of their picks on one side of the ball and it still might not be enough. Faulk is a rangy defensive end who isn’t afraid to put his nose down and defend the run. At the risk of going full football guy: Faulk will set the tone on a defense that hasn’t shown much fight in recent years.

Fox Sports' latest:

12. Dallas Cowboys

This is exactly what I had the Cowboys doing in my first mock draft. I think Downs is good enough to be drafted earlier than this, but he might get hurt by positional value. Still, Downs is sensational and could elevate a Dallas defense that was the worst in scoring this past season. Ohio State’s entire defense was built around Downs, winning a national championship as a result. Jerry Jones, don’t overthink it.

20. Dallas Cowboys (via Packers)

Even though I have them taking Downs with their first pick, the Cowboys still need some defensive help. If McCoy wasn’t hurt, he might have been in the conversation with Mansoor Delane to be the top cornerback in this draft. He could still take that honor if he performs well at his pro day, but watch out for the Cowboys if they’re able to land the players who I think are the best defenders in this draft.

There's literally no chance we go DB/DB with the first two picks, it's like these people ignore FA and the fact that the secondary is basically the only position group we did anything at.
I wonder if they're doing like happens all too often, thinking Parker was a secondary coach so of course he'll want DBs. Way too simplistic, but they do it.

The Athletics' latest:

12. Dallas Cowboys: Mansoor Delane, CB, LSU

In just about any other year, the Cowboys would not pass on Love in this situation. They were faced with something similar in 2020 when edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson would have filled a bigger need, but wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was higher on their board. They made the right decision. But the Cowboys need defensive help even more this year, so it’s highly unlikely they’d go with Love here. Delane fits a major area of need, giving Dallas a Day 1 starting cornerback to pair with DaRon Bland, Shavon Revel and recently signed Cobie Durant. Had Delane been gone, this would’ve been an ideal trade-back situation. — Jon Machota

20. Dallas Cowboys (from Green Bay): CJ Allen, LB, Georgia

There were several top edge rushers to pick from, making for a great trade-back scenario if things fall this way next month. But inside linebacker is clearly the Cowboys’ biggest need right now. Allen would step in immediately as the green-dot quarterback of the defense. Dallas had interest in free agents Nakobe Dean and Quay Walker but lost out on both. Here, the Cowboys could get a different former Georgia standout to lead things in the middle. Whether they stay put or trade back, addressing the defense has to be the target with multiple Day 1 and Day 2 picks. The offense is a playoff-caliber group. It’s all about closing the gap from having arguably the NFL’s worst defense. — Machota

And a mid second round pick and next years first is absolutely not worth it.

But that's my point. I don't know what the compensation would be but you're getting too lost in the specifics of the compensation. Say it's an early second this year or whatever would be realistic and make you feel better.

My point is that if you're reaching for let's say a Terrell level of player, is he really a whole lot better than maybe Hood or Cisse or someone you could get in the early or mid second? Or Faulk or Parker versus Howell or Lawrence? Or Allen versus Hill or Rodriguez?

At that point I'd rather take a first next year plus get a very good player in the early 2nd.

I feel like I have read this post before. How many times does he have to explain it? :lol

Right, the basic gist is, would you sacrifice a little this year for a bigger gain next year. And I would, basically always. It's one of the rare ways to get ahead in the draft and team building.

And a high second I would do it for. If the Raiders want to do it with the first pick in the second round I'd be all over it. The spot in the round does make a ton of difference. Especially because part of the evaluation in my opinion has to be how you think that team will perform next season.

I think the point is I'm not trading down that far for nothing. Otherwise I'd rather get my favorite LBer, safety, pass rusher, corner or whatever. As opposed to a guy who is close but I like less.

Don't pass on Stephen Jackson for a lesser RB because you get a future first. And that sounds like a bad example because Jackson was by far a better RB than Julius Jones. But I don't think the Cowboys viewed it that way at the time.

If next year's draft wasn't projected as being so much more top heavy I might feel different, but as it has shaped up, I think I would take a deal to gain more capital next year.

I think that's a dangerous game to play. A year ago this draft was projected to be stocked with top tier QB talent. You really just don't know until you get there.

Peter Woods was supposed to be an unattainable talent in this draft for us a year ago. Now I don't even know if we would want him at 20.

What a disaster this would be despite the fact that I think they're both good players. But we could do better at both spots.
I will say it again. Drafting well is a very delicate balance between need and BPA. In this case, we don't need a second DB in the first regardless if he is the BPA. So, look elsewhere. You have plenty of needs to fill.
