If we are unable to trade, I’d be good with McCoy at 12. I also wouldn’t cry if we took the best OT either, especially if Mauigoa falls to us. If it was Downs, I’d be happy on paper I guess, but I’m worried his skill might not translate as well as we’d expect from the 12th overall pick.
OT is a clear need, and even if we drafted one, we still might have a need there.
I’m pissed Guyton’s been mostly a bust, and not happy to see us commit even more to inconsistent Steele, though it prolly couldn’t be helped. From a business perspective with a 1st round pick and a big contract already invested I could see the team hesitate to pull the trigger.
But Mauigoa would be a good value, and he plays nasty which I truly appreciate as a fan. If he solves LT and by his presence there allows Guyton to blossom as a RT, then 1). We over-invested in the OL. 2). We solidified a critical position group and enabled the offense to take a major step forward.
I’d prefer an OT in the 4th round of course, but 1st round wouldn’t freak me out
