True I'm not a big fan of the big DE without production. The guys who are A+ run defenders but D level pass rushers. You've seen my opinions over the years. And the majority of the time I end up right in my opinion.

I love the tall DT types for what you want. Derrick Harmon for example. Lined up some at end and some at DT. Watched him a ton and loved him.

Maybe I'm being unfair to Faulk. I like him, just don't like him anywhere in the first round. I think he could be a starter here at DE. I'd love him in the third. I'd be good with him in the second. I'd hate him in the first. At 20 years old he could become what you think. Add 10 pounds and grow into it. I just don't see it right now. I see more of what you're talking about in Dennis-Sutton than Faulk.

Dennis-Sutton would be great in the third, if he lasts or we get extra picks
 
If we are unable to trade, I’d be good with McCoy at 12. I also wouldn’t cry if we took the best OT either, especially if Mauigoa falls to us. If it was Downs, I’d be happy on paper I guess, but I’m worried his skill might not translate as well as we’d expect from the 12th overall pick.

OT is a clear need, and even if we drafted one, we still might have a need there.

I’m pissed Guyton’s been mostly a bust, and not happy to see us commit even more to inconsistent Steele, though it prolly couldn’t be helped. From a business perspective with a 1st round pick and a big contract already invested I could see the team hesitate to pull the trigger.

But Mauigoa would be a good value, and he plays nasty which I truly appreciate as a fan. If he solves LT and by his presence there allows Guyton to blossom as a RT, then 1). We over-invested in the OL. 2). We solidified a critical position group and enabled the offense to take a major step forward.

I’d prefer an OT in the 4th round of course, but 1st round wouldn’t freak me out

I don't think we have to worry too much about Mauigoa being there, but if the top defensive players are gone and the choice comes down to Fano vs. Thieneman, Mesidor, etc., I wouldn't complain if they take Fano.

Meh, it would just be kind of a shitty situation one way or the other. I'd take Thieneman but Fano would probably be the BPA and Steele is an asshole, so hey. The fact that we can't rely on Guyton for much of anything and that Steele is what he is would make it understandable, barring a trade down obviously.

I completely wrote Fano off after the arm measurement situation at the Combine, although it seems something is off with the accuracy of their arm measurements and that he's actually nearly at 33.

I think Fano is overrated in a bad tackle class.

I don't love him either but I could see a case for him as BPA and would at least appreciate trying to improve the lone weak spot on offense.

I don't think Thieneman for example is a clearly better prospect and he's my main fall back at this point.

Also a good outcome. Ioane is really good. We’d prolly be the only team in NFL history to draft a guard in the 1st round in back to back years, each at pick 12 no less.

But there are guys like Freeling and Proctor also very good, though Mauigoa is my favorite

If we don't trade down and get extra picks, there's absolutely no way we can draft an OT anywhere before the 5th round.
 
In theory, if you could absolutely guarantee that the OT 1) was the clear BPA and 2) would definitively fix one OT position for years, okay.

Problem is, you can't guarantee that.

I think at this point I'd lean towards Mesidor but I'd be open to Thieneman.

But that's only if the top 7 defenders including McCoy are gone. If McCoy is there and the rest are gone, take McCoy.

All assuming no trade down is available.

Not right now, we can't do that. The only scenario where I'd be ok with taking anything on offense is if we add multiple extra picks in the top 3 or 4 rounds.

The problem is this isn't a good OT class. It's not good at all. These OTs I think are being pushed up that don't deserve it. I think Mauigoa is legit but after that I'm just like, these feel like your standard 20-32 type OTs. I don't see Fano as BPA. I see him as, well he is the second best so we assume he will go this high.

I kind of like Proctor but that's just because I'm always a fan of the monster size OTs. Flozell Adams types if you will.

That's not a good is outcome that's a terrible outcome.
