2026 Cowboys Draft Chatter Thread

About getting sucked?

Probably, bringing in Reese and Bailey for top 30 visits feels off.

Due diligence and all that, sure, but I can't remember them ever bringing in guys who are basically top 3-5 locks when they were picking this low.

Or it speaks to the unpredictability at the top of this draft so we are bringing in all the top defensive players. The only one I think we are missing is Bain. But 5/6 of the consensus top defensive guys. Basically we are prepared to take any of them if they fall to 12.

Sure you could say that but in reality Reese is more or less locked in at 2 and has no chance of falling outside of the top 4, and Bailey is a guy who will never fall to 12 in a million years.

To 6 or 7?

Maybe, probably not, but maybe. But 12?

Might as well bring in Mendoza for a visit.

Styles, Downs and Delane certainly fit that bill of "guys who probably won't be there but crazy things happen", but to bring in two guys who you know you're not getting without at least some sort of small trade up?

It's a very curious thing when you start mixing in these rumors coming from random corners of NFL/Cowboys media.

If Mendoza is locked in at 1. And Reese is locked in at 2. Why bother visiting any teams if you're Reese? The Cowboys can't get high enough to pick him by that logic.

If you're looking at 3 then you're guaranteed one or the other if you make a move before Arizona is on the clock, if you're looking at moving up to 6ish you're just hoping one of them drops so you look at both.

Its easy to say "due diligence" but in reality you and I both know neither of them are getting anywhere close to 12.

I'd have to take Hill over Rodriguez just so your level of insufferable didn't get too high.
Your insolence has been noted. And, Chapo, how DARE you like that post?? No more BFF holiday cards you for, mister.

I think Reese goes 2 as well. Which ultimately makes him unreachable even via a trade. But yeah, I'm sure we are both doing due diligence but also seeing if the opportunity to trade up presents itself, if we should. I do think trade ups into the top 10 this year will be cheaper than other years. The lack of QBs and elite prospects is probably going to reduce the price of moving up into the top 10.

Am I wrong, fuckers?

I think there's a very real chance they trade up and I think it's very possible Arizona wants to trade down and is a potential candidate. Not guaranteed or anything, but I think if I remember correctly when we traded up for Claiborne (which most of us hated at the time) their reasoning was that it was cheaper than normal and they couldn't turn down the value. That trade was 14 plus 45 for 6. Based on that history I think we'd absolutely trade up if they thought it was a bargain.

I'm not getting sucked though, I'm actually worried about it because I don't want to lose the number of first and second day picks we have and in fact I would prefer to add more.

Which is why I'm trying to think of ways where I wouldn't necessarily hate it, even if it still wouldn't be my preference.

This is what a potential 12 + 20 for 3 + 34 draft could look like (I intentionally avoided any other trades). Ignore the trade of next year's first (I wouldn't do that but I wanted to make the trade go through).

Hill again?!

Another thing though, is Bailey really that special? I don't think so. Just because he's the best in this class (or 1A with Reese), that doesn't mean he'll be that special in the NFL. So I'm not sure he's worth the trade up just in that way.

If it were me, I would take Bain in that scenario.

Why not? What is it you don't like?
Not that I don't like him, just that I don't think he would be in the top 5-6 or so in the NFL. Doesn't mean he sucks or anything, just that I don't think he's that special. That's mostly just eye test kind of thing.

Do you think he's that special relative to the vets already in the league? Not saying you're wrong if you do.

It's hard, people have said the same things about most of the top pass rushers in the NFL? No one saw that in Parsons before we took him. Ware was a debate about Merriman when we took him.

Miles Garrett is more of a generational talent then something you should just expect in the top 10 of every draft.

I look at Bailey and he is fast, he has perfect size, great arm length and elite production. Just not sure why he doesn't rank close to the top pass rushers in most drafts.

But Parsons is a good example. He had extreme testing, under a 4.4. He hits the sled like no one I've ever seen for his size. He's a freak. So is Garrett, obviously.

That doesn't mean Bailey can't be very good, and I'd never say don't take a guy because he isn't as big a freak as a Parsons or Garrett. I'm just saying I'm not sure it's such a guarantee (obviously there are no guarantees on anyone, but you know what I mean) that he'll be such a standout in the NFL.
