2026 Cowboys Draft Chatter Thread

According to the Fitzgerald-Spielberger chart (based on empirical data collected between 2011 and 2015),

Pick 3: 2443 points
Pick 12: 1741 points
Pick 20: 1482 points
Pick 92: 709 points

3 is almost exactly worth 12 plus 92.

That is not a chart I'd want to be working with.

That chart would essentially say 2 third round picks is worth pick 20. Who here would consider trading pick 20 for two third round picks? But hey, if some other team is using that chart I'm happy to move up in the draft.

Each draft is different. Maybe rounds 2-3 picks are much more valuable than in previous drafts.

Back in 1991 we traded pick 11 and our 2nd rounder (pick 14 in that round) to New England for the top pick.

That draft was super-deep, but also very weak at the top. Rocket Ismail was considered the top player in WR-dry draft, and Dallas tried to negotiate to get him over the Toronto Argonauts before settling for Russell Maryland who had been the 5th ranked prospect but had also been coached by Jimmy at Miami.

Maybe this draft is also being considered weak at the top while rounds 2 and 3 are being thought of as not too different than late round 1?

Still, pick 92 is the cheapest price by the standards of any draft I've heard of to jump to pick 3 from 12. Also today, unlike 1991, that pick brings with it the promise of a cheap starter in a salary cap world.

Straight up, Drafttek says it should cost 1000 points to move from 12 (worth 1200) to 3 (worth 2200). That would be at least Dallas pick 20 (worth 850). So one of these sources is wrong.

Or maybe they meant to say Dallas trades 12, 20 and 92 (worth 132) for 3?

I do think this is a unique class, especially given the fact that Arizona seems to want an OL but knows the value at 3 is terrible, they may be happy to move down for a little less and still get their choice of almost any OT in the class.

Throw in the fact that we seem comfortable being aggressive with picks (Crosby offers), and that most teams in front of us would be unlikely to move up, and it could be a bit of a perfect storm.

Now, if they would do just 12 and 92, I would jump on that in a heartbeat to get Bailey.

For the record this is what Grok says about the McShay report that they're interested in moving up to 3.

Here's the key context from McShay's direct quotes (around the 13:40–15:00 mark):

On the Arizona Cardinals (who hold the No. 3 pick): "Trading out of No. 3 remains one of the priorities, or one of the things that could absolutely happen with Arizona."

On the Dallas Cowboys (projected at No. 12): "There's a lot of buzz about Dallas, and what comes to the noise, with Dallas trading up from 12 to three to get Bailey, right?" (referring to Texas Tech EDGE David Bailey, a top projected pass rusher often mocked to Arizona at No. 3). He also noted Bailey as a strong fit for Dallas given their defensive rebuild and Bailey being an in-state prospect.

McShay didn't release a written article or tweet the Cowboys-specific rumor himself (his recent X posts/@McShay13 confirm Arizona's openness to trading back for Bailey but don't name Dallas). The info comes straight from the podcast episode.

Whether or not you believe any one specific rumor there's a lot of chatter about us trading up from 12, which is something I've been debating in my head over the last week or so.

I could easily see a "last of the Mohicans" scenario as Jerry loves to say where only one of Downs, Styles or Bain is left on the board at 9 or 10 and we look to move up with a 4 or something.

What if they would accept 3 and 34 for 12 and 20?
That's very similar to the 6 and 39 scenario we have talked about. I would probably do it and take Bailey and Rodriguez. But, take that with a Tech size grain of salt.

You are all getting sucked.

Rumors are one thing, bringing in two consensus top 3ish prospects for 30 visits on top of said rumors is another.

Will it happen?

Probably not just because that's how things work, and could this just be Arizona trying to drum up interest?

Sure, but at this point I think it's safe to say they're very seriously considering it if not actively discussing it with teams up the board.

Am I wrong, fuckers?

About getting sucked?

Probably, bringing in Reese and Bailey for top 30 visits feels off.

Due diligence and all that, sure, but I can't remember them ever bringing in guys who are basically top 3-5 locks when they were picking this low.
