He was talking about loving on the players after the game and it honestly just sort of weirds me out. I know he is a touchy feely kind of guy. And it's all about loving and appreciating his guys. But those players just delivered you a failure of a season. Maybe light a fire under their asses in the offseason instead of giving them a love speech.

Definitely the wrong message to send at the end of a season like this. I prefer that they understand the off-season is going to require serious work rather than consoling them.

I don’t know if it’s true, but I heard from a friend of a friend that he arranged for boxes of tissues to be at every locker for his speech following the game.

Everyone got a mirror too, with instructions that said “look in mirror to see who god loves.”.

He got 4 years? Jesus Christ. I guess that means he’ll have a year or so to help destroy whatever QB we draft next. Perfect.

I just double checked and yeah, he got 4 years.

(As an aside, apparently he's making only slightly more money than our worthless DC, so that's fun.)

I don't know if we would stubbornly stick with him for 4 years if nothing gets better than this year. But he probably could pull a Garrett for 4 years if he sneaks into the playoffs a time or two mixed with .500ish years.

Honestly I'm not completely out on him like I was immediately on Garrett. I don't think he's as bad as that (though I'm not 100% sure yet).

That said, I don't have a great feeling about him so far. My guess is he won't succeed.

But what I do know is that we'll never truly find out about the HC while the DC is this bad.

I don't hate him, he is a likable guy. Garrett isn't likable to anyone except Schmitty. But I'm still not convinced he will lead this team anywhere. But I want to give him that shot with a defensive coordinator that he at least helped pick. And I'll judge him off that. Hard to judge the guy with this defense when he had no say in who the defensive coordinator would be or what he would do. And his side of the ball looked pretty damn good.

The one caveat I'd throw in there for his side of the ball is that they had some real problems in the red zone and that really needs to get cleaned up next year. That's definitely on Schottenheimer (and possibly also on Adams).

Yeah we were 7th in the NFL in points. The last game probably brought us down a little. If we figured the redzone stuff out I'd expect us to be closer to the top spot in scoring and yards on offense. Our defense also did us no favors with never creating turnovers or quick stops (well almost never)

Yeah, and some of that was this weird reluctance to run the ball inside the 5.

He needs to call more running plays down there.

I still think a lot of it is Dak checking into passes and otherwise having huge control over what we do. He's done it for years and we still don't want to change too much from what he's been used to for a decade now.

Change my mind.

Something was clearly wrong with at minimum his balance. Guy was tripping all over himself.

I wish I could say I have confidence that it will be fixed and he will be a really good player again. But the truth is I'm worried that his foot is just a rest of his career problem and that we are stuck in his stupid contract now.
Doesn’t this just fit the Dallas Cowboys narrative…..

Not just the worst defense in team history but the fourth worst defense in 50 years.

Looking at those numbers goes to show just how good our offense really was …most of the teams on that list above had records of 2-14 , 0-16 ect.. and we come in just around .500… it makes me think if this defense was 1/2 better than it was ..we’d be singing a different tune right now

I think we'd have been 10-7 at least, maybe 11-7 or 12-5.

I really believe that. We more or less have a championship level offense right now. We don't need to have the 85 Bears on the other side of the ball, just a competent middle of the pack defense and we can win a lot of games.

(Assuming we retain our offensive free agents like Williams and Pickens.)
