I just heard that Dak's contact has a loophole that could reduce next year's cap hit from $60M to $40M by converting some of his salary into a signing bonus... is this accurate? If so, $40M (or $20 and $20 if designated a 6/1 cut) is a lot easier to swallow.

I don't think the cutting him would work that way. Right now he has like a voidable year or two on his deal. So if you convert some of next years salary to signing bonus you're just taking what he is getting paid and spreading some of it into 2025 and 2026. The problem is if you cut him it all comes due. Meaning a June 1 cut is still 30 and 30.
 
This is actually the first time I heard this, but I was watching an older Irvin interview and he said the wheels between Jimmy and Jerry started coming off because Jerry wanted to parade some royalty from foreign countries (probably fucking ragheads from the oil producing nations) through the locker room.

They were discussing this on the Fan last week and it doesn't affect the cap hit. It just reduces how much the Cowboys would pay him.

I think you actually have that backwards. They can lower the cap hit but Dak's really getting paid the same. By converting base salary to signing bonus you're shifting a portion of that cap hit to the voidable 2025 and 2026 years. Basically you're reducing the cap figure for Dak in 2024. However by doing that in 2025 even if his contract has expired you'll have to take that money on the cap because the voidable years void and thus what you pushed out becomes due.

Hypothetically what I'm saying is you can reduce Dak's cap hit next year, let him play out the last year of the deal (The voidable years automatically void, they aren't real) but then you'll still be accounting for Dak in 2025 against the cap. It is a way though to let Dak play out this contract if you want and move on after next season.

That was Prince Bandar right after the Chicago game in 1992 if I remember correctly.
 
You could make the case that Jerry is in fact one of the absolute worst owners in sports history. I mean, I guess he wins if all it comes down to is dollars, but the only reason his team has won anything.....ever was due to him being able to tolerate a man with a real football intellect for 5 years.

Not even tolerance. Jerruh didn’t narrow it down to Jimmuh after wide-net search and rigorous interview process. Jerruh didn’t have a vision to build the team and decide Jimmuh fit best.

Sheer luck m’fers were college roommates. That’s it.

If not for Jimmuh, shit, Switzer might’ve been the 1989 hire. IIRC, Switzer interview said he went down to Valley Ranch to cool down Jimmuh and Jerruh, find out how they f’d up a great thing and next thing he knew, he was head coach

Congratulate the Arkansas intern that paired the two together as bunk mates. He earned Jerruh three Super Bowls.

Im guessing, but the loophole involves the voidable years that automatically void. So, Dak would have to agree to those extra years.

He’s not going to agree to an extra 1-2 years at this contract’s rate, when he will likely fetch 4+ years at a higher rate.
