For those reasons, I don't hate this move.

The reason why I did not want to bring him back is because I felt that a performance that egregiously awful made it to where there needed to be hell to pay across the board and nobody in a significant position on the football side of things should have survived it....but here we are.

Now that you've brought him back, what absolutely cannot happen is you cannot pair him with Dak Prescott again and you absolutely need to make significant changes on the defensive side of the ball in both coaching and personnel.

If you're basically going to bring most of the staff and players back intact, then what's the fucking point?

This is my thought process as well.

Although I doubt Dak goes anywhere.

But they HAVE TO overhaul the defense, including a new coordinator.

But I'm over having an elite paid guy not play elite in the playoffs. McCarthy has developed QBs before. Let him develop one.

But we all know Dak will be back, McCarthy is back and I'm starting to feel like we will just get a lot of the same next year.

The one thing I'll say about Dak's contract is that if they can get a longer deal this time, they can probably get him at a reasonable cap number the first couple years. If he's coming back regardless that's our best chance to field a reasonable team around him.

I'm sure that's the plan. Hopefully Dak's stock at least took a serious hit and he realizes that being a top 5 highest paid QB is overrated at this point. Maybe you want help. Ceedee to stick around, maybe a better second weapon, maybe better protection. You want these things, you might not be able to go get a 50+ mil a year deal.

If so, and if the coaching staff remains in place (as is) which isn't a stretch, an upgrade at RB, a legit LB, along with the return of Diggs may be the hope (if any) of getting over the hump.

But injuries happen every year. You simply can't be that thin at key spots. It's asking for trouble.

I don't think LVE was that good when on the field. Maybe you should have a few of those guys. It shouldn't cripple your team to lose a LVE level guys.

Diggs hurt, he may be the second most impactful defender behind Parsons. But injuries happen. You can't go into every season knowing there are 10 guys that if one gets hurt your season is screwed. Plus he wouldn't have helped stop the run.

Pretty high. Of you extend him you'll need the longer deal to lower the money. If you can't lower his cap number significantly you're wasting your time.

We can and should replace both.

The OL coaching hire is huge, as it always should be.

I think I remember McCarthy praising Solari later in the year, but more importantly, why would any new coaches who are in any sort of demand come here when McCarthy is likely a lame duck?

That is a valid point. We will likely get some idiot he has worked with some place.

That is more of my concern above McCarthy coming back. Nobody worth a shit is going to want to hitch their trailer to his wagon.

I was not advocating keeping LVE... but rather replacing him with a legit LBer (Azeez Al-Shaair(TEN), Frankie Luvu(CAR), *Patrick Queen(BAL), etc.) to pair with Clark and Overshown, et al. Assuming we're treating, paying Parsons as an EDGE.

Then Bell go back to being an "in the box safety".

Hopefully the investment in Cooks and Gilmore will encourage them dig deeper into the FA pool.

If they're sticking with MM and Dak, they've got no choice but to improve the roster.

I seriously doubt JJ is going to be inclined to invest too many resources for this throwaway year with a lame duck coach.

And Jerry wants Dak to work. He's invested all this time and money and wants the payoff.

Exactly ! we are trying to get “ blood from a stone “ in my eyes when it comes to Dak . If he indeed made “significant strides” then why did he have that deer in the headlights look in the playoffs ?? I mean cmon now .. if you played lights out ball for the majority of 17 games your confidence level should have been through the roof.. I didn’t see that .. again I saw a scared little boy .. confused about what was in front of him .. and panicking. We go nowhere with him .
