If I want a pure guard, yes. I like Bass at LG and Tyler at LT. But if the team is nervous about Bass at LG this would be a good pick. Plus you can possibly put Bass at center (I have no idea how he has looked there). Not to mention Martin isn't exactly a young pup. He could miss games and it's probably not too early to start grooming his replacement.

Yeah, the kind of guy I probably don't take in the second but if he is sitting there in the third I go, yes please, and fill a starting role on the O-line. I don't know that I feel like guard is really a need that has to be filled. But more talented guys on the O-line mean you can move your current guards to other spots (See Tyler and Bass).

I mean 2024 is the last year of his deal. But at 28 mil this upcoming season, we probably will need to do something about that contract.

Depending on how free agency goes I think you could make an argument for literally any position on the OL in the first 2 rounds since there are so many moving parts and permutations of how it all might shake out.

At this point I'm simply thinking of at which point in the draft I think a guy should be taken.

It's interesting that he has Frazier in the first, I wouldn't take him over Barton if we let Biadasz walk but I wouldn't begrudge them for taking him at 24 if both JPJ and Barton are gone. Frazier and Darius Robinson are my primary backup plans if the majority of the guys I like fly off the board.

In terms of the pick here, Guyton would be really interesting because most of his experience is at RT but he definitely has the athleticism to play LT as well. It'd give us the option of moving on from Steele after next season and having Tyler at LT with Guyton at RT, or if Steele rebounds to his 2022 form we could keep him at RT, move Guyton to LT and keep Tyler at LG.
 


I have yet to watch this player. I may now have to.

I've been saying this since the Senior Bowl, it depends on what happens with the OL in free agency, but as long as there isn't a glaring hole at center that would overshadow every other need, I'd be happy with Robinson at 24.

I don't think we can take him if we let both Tyron and Biadasz go though.

With all that said, Robinson isn't going to be much of an edge rusher but he should be a horse setting the edge while kicking inside in clear pass rushing situations.
 
The fact that they were close to taking Bergeron last year, and we didn't add anyone of note last year, makes me think OL is pretty likely.

Depending on Bass. We know they like him, but do they like him enough count on him as an effective starter.

Yep, I said very early on in the season that I thought OL was the most likely outcome for our 1st in 2024, if you're comparing position to position as opposed to OL vs. everything else combined, and I still feel very much that way.

Like you said, they damn near took Bergeron last year and you have several guys this year who fit that profile but are better prospects (Fautanu, Barton, Morgan), add in the fact that Tyron and/or Biadasz will probably be gone next year and it's obvious where they're likely to go.

And if they let Biadasz go it's almost a certainty they take Barton who could conceivably play either LG or C.

The big question is whether or not they think Bass can play center, I think it'd be too much of a risk but who knows what their thought process is.

The other part, to kind of contradict what I just said, is what if one of these guys like a Richards or Waletzko develops? We've spent a few mid round picks on these guys the last few years, and it would be nice to get something about of at least one of them.

Of course we don't really know what the coaches think about those players, and they surely aren't telling us before the draft.

Maybe but I think it'd be ridiculously foolish to count on our line to be something along the lines of Tyron/Tyler/Bass/Martin/Steele with the only depth being Waletzko/Hoffman/Richards.

And that assumes that they re-sign Tyron.

The best-case scenario for Waletzko is basically a decent swing tackle, you can never count on him as a starter really. Richards has an outside chance of turning into a starter at LG most likely, but you're really thin if you're counting on him as basically your next man up if Tyron goes down.

I just can't see any scenario where OL isn't at least a top 2 need unless they re-sign both Tyron and Biadasz.

Waletzko is in the Ball bucket for me. I hold zero hope for him. Richards I like but I get the unknown. I kind of like Bosticks potential on the practice squad as well.
