They do tell the Cowboys the number of the guy who is eligible. Hell it's announced over the speakers apparently even. But I think the assumption is defenders don't pay great attention and just look for the guy running from the ref after reporting.

The crowd also might have been loud and hard to hear.
 
I don't care even a little bit if they fucked up the call on that 2 pt conversion. Because IT NEVER SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED.

If the refs had called tripping on Hutchinson like they should have, instead of on us, we would have had a first down with Detroit only having one timeout left. With a 7 pt lead. And deep in Detroit territory. Even if we don't pick up a first down, we kick a FG to go up by ten with very little time left. Even if we miss the FG (:lol yeah right) they have to drive the length of the field with no TOs and only a few seconds left.

The tripping should have been a no-call, but your point remains.
 
Even better audio of the announcement from the radio side. It's perfectly clear and the ref even repeats himself.

 
Just a reminder that McCarthy did the exact same dumb shit against Seattle in terms of passing the ball with about 1:40 left on 3rd down when the opponent had no timeouts. Seattle got the ball back down 6 with about 1:30 left instead of :50 seconds or less.

We got away with it there, and I guess narrowly last night, but if he finds himself in that situation again he needs to get his head on straight and run the fucking ball.

Yeah, it's my biggest complaint about Mike. Clock management has been very suspect at times.
