How are they almost always the last ones to recognize when a fellow athlete is finished?

Yeah, I think it's just something in their mentality. Most athletes don't know that their physical abilities have regressed and they aren't capable of still playing. And they do the same thing when looking at other athletes. I'm sure Zeke doesn't look at himself and go man, I'm slow and have no balance left, I can't do this.

It's not about being smart, it's just an inability to recognize what should be obvious, but isn't, for whatever reason.

When you watch sports shows or listen to podcasts, the worst personnel suggestions always come from former athletes.

The same thing when active athletes try hard to recruit guys that are clearly finished.

It's weird how they are the last ones to realize when a guy just physically can't do it anymore.
