but those are shit teams beating one another. The Cards have played 2 of what were considered to be top 3 NFC teams, and exposed one as a fraud. Before the 9ers did the same, only more convincingly. Maybe were not top 3 NFC contender.

The Jets beat the Bills.

We destroyed the Jets.

It doesn't matter if it's bad teams or not. You can't just view things in isolation like that.

Not that anyone was sitting around waiting for my thoughts on the game the other night, but since I wasn't in the gameday chat as usual I thought I'd just share some short thoughts on how I feel about it and the team going forward.

First, it's about as disappointing a loss as we've had in quite some time because it says the team isn't anywhere near as good as we'd hoped and thought it was. We were thoroughly outcoached on both sides of the ball.

Still, this team should make the playoffs but I doubt they'll do much once they get there. Because it's only week 5, it's too early to know exactly how bad or how good we are and if what we saw Sunday was something that can be rectified or major issues being exposed for the first time.

Normally, I'd take the wait and see approach but then there's Dak. I already had all kinds of doubts with him coming into the season but seeing that? There's no damn way we're making a run in the playoffs with that guy playing QB even if some other issues were to improve.

He is what he is and there should be no question whatsoever about who and what he is an NFL QB.

The sooner we can move on, the better.

Jerry just gave him a full vote of confidence. But what Jerry really does is condemn Cowboy fans to more seasons in the wilderness -- this year being season 27, next year 28, then 29, 30, 31, and so on.

Yep, as awful as Sunday night was, I don't think much has changed in the big picture. We still just need to somehow scrape out enough wins to get to the playoffs. It's a long, long season and this team and every other one will have evolved a lot by the time we get to late December.

This is true. If you take out the connotations regarding how bad of a dismantling it was and the implications of that, and just regard this as an L, the only thing this really changed is that the #1 seed is probably off the table for us. Otherwise nothing is really different.

I get that almost all of us are taking that loss as an indictment of the team and for good reason.

We're always waiting for the other shoe to drop and sure enough, it always does.

But if we're looking at this objectively, it's an ugly ass loss but it doesn't mean we aren't still a contender.

Remember, the 92 Cowboys went to Philly in week 4 in what was considered an early NFCC preview and they got the shit kicked out of them by tune of 31-7. And that was a team with Jimmy Johnson, Norv Turner, and Dave Wannstedt on it.

No, I am not comparing this team to the 92 Cowboys.....I'm simply saying that a week 5 blowout in what's supposed to be a measuring stick doesn't mean it's definite proof that your team is a fraud.

This is a good coaching staff so if you tell me there's a chance they could figure things out as the season goes along, I think that's completely within the realm of possibility.

But the problem is that I have zero confidence in the QB and I feel that verdict on him is definitive and I just can't see how we're gonna beat any real contender in January with that guy behind center.

At some point he's going to have to make tough throws under the pressure and he just doesn't see the field well and that along with clearly being rattled mentally is a terrible recipe to have that basically gives you no chance to succeed.

This would be ridiculous. McCarthy needs to sink or swim doing things his own way.

If you want to neuter him you might as well fire him.

But all this talk after 5 games is ridiculous.

How many years did Moore get? Garrett for that matter?

McCarthy has more than earned some time and patience.

I do have to bring up the name Mike Nolan in context here. Subtract one point.
I am not going to outright call the hires of guys like Schottenheimer and Solari as kind of in the same vein, but it is starting to look very much like Tabasco In Mah Eye.

Sounds like the Black Knight scene from Month Python and the Holy Grail. The Black Knight gets his left arm cut off, it's spurting blood, and he says, "Tis but a scratch."

Come back, I’ll bite your kneecaps . /gratuitous blood squirts from missing arms .

I think we can beat most teams in the NFC, primarily because I think we're clearly better than basically everyone except SF, Philly and maybe Detroit, and I think we match up pretty well with Philly and Detroit because Dak will be able to make plays against their so-so secondaries.

The problem is I don't think there's any way we can beat SF unless the coaches can put together an all-timer type of offensive gameplan that is a stark departure from what we normally do, and/or we get the benefit of numerous turnovers/penalties.

With 9er, we always:
  • Play from behind
  • Lose turnover battle and
  • Lose the penalty battle.
These factors combine to defeat a good team. And they represent a definitive pattern in the current regime, no matter the efforts by owner and coach to catch up to the superior team.

That public vote of confidence was expected. Praise publicly, explore options to move on privately.

That's the NFL standard.

This wasn't just a loss. It was a beat down, a slaughter, a humiliation. The unknowable is how a team, a team comprised of individuals, recovers from that psychologically. When you have a key guy like Lamb sitting there, shrugging, apathetic, responding to a question about the team's personality— "I don't know"— that's not a good sign.

What's the secret to your optimism on this?

I want to believe.

I'm not buying this anymore. Philly's clearly better and Detroit looks to be a notch above the Cowboys as well.

This team has looked like complete dogshit two of the last three games. With that lone win coming against a team that is probably the worst team in football.

I fully expect the Chargers to march up and down the field against them as well. If the Chargers take care of the ball and put up 24 points, I have a hard time envisioning the Cowboys walking out of the stadium with a win. Because Dak and McCarthy's spotty offense have left a lot to be desired for most of the young season.

The 9ers made CeeDee a non factor. Take away the heart of the defense, nullify the best player on offense (and Daks primary) and battle is half over.

We'll see but Philly has been barely scratching by and should've lost to that very same Pats team you're calling the worst in football. They were a play or two from losing to the Skins at home, the same team the Bears blew out a few days later.

SF is clearly a step above everyone else right now but I think we're right there with Philly and probably Detroit, who hasn't really beaten anybody impressive except for an off-brand version of the Chiefs.

Oh, we're beating the chargers I think.
