Gave it to the guy who will be here for the season at least

I disagree. Lance is still an unknown, he has so little experience. He might flame out. But he has elite talent, and the chance he develops is there. If we had used a 4th during the draft for someone exactly like him, people would have been happy.

About the only difference I could see is that you would have twice the amount of time to see whether that pick was going to develop. I'm skeptical but will hope for the best.

Well said, but this part doesn’t ring true

Sure he can use his legs, but his arm isn’t that strong and his creativity doesn’t make up for it, or he hasn’t flashed it yet.

When I think elite talent in a prospect, Lance never enters my mind. I see no similarities with Burrow, Herbert, Rodgers, or Mahomes. It’s hard to think of anyone historically elite he reminds me of either.

I may be blind to it of course, but then again so were the 49ers when they decided to trade him in favor of a very average Brock Purdy.

Yeah, you must be right. I'll defer to you on this.

I rarely if ever saw this guy play.

Lance has raw talent, a good attitude, seems to be free of character concerns, and is only 23. He's underdeveloped and quite inexperienced. Keeping him around as a down roster QB for a couple of seasons isn't a bad idea.
If I had to put numbers to it, I'd guess there's roughly a 50% chance that he'll be no worse than a Cooper Rush level quarterback. Maybe there's a 15% chance that he'll develop into a quality starter.

Yeah instead of 4 years you have 2. I ignore the fifth year option because the only way that gets used is if Dak is being booted.

Exactly. Barring crazy injury he won’t see the field at all this year, either. A 2nd round pick might, though, as they would have most likely been the #2 QB. We think so much of Lance that he’s #3

Was Carson Wentz as elite?
:lol

Can you read a guys mental makeup? But yeah... Carson Wentz had elite traits, too. There are guys every year at every position that are considered to have elite traits, that don't make it in the NFL. There are guys that the so called experts don't think have those traits, that do.

If you are one that can tell when a player can or can't make it at the highest level, you might want to consider a career change.

How many people just on this board alone thought when Wentz was coming out he was an elite QB? How many wanted to draft him, and were bummed when Philly traded up to take him?

I wanted Wentz that year, I'll admit it.

Was fucking PISSED when Philly traded up.

I know they get these from the agents and that's not their concern, but when people like Schefter report these new deals I wish they'd tell us the cap hits the first few years.
