I mean you can't look at Dak that way. Of course there aren't better free agent QBs. If you replace Dak it has to be in a trade or part of acknowledgement that you're not winning a Superbowl for a couple years.
How about we actually compete for a Superbowl for once? That means the NFCC, which Dak hasn’t gotten us to in four serious shots in the divisional round, all winnable games.

Clock is ticking on the defense Quinn has built around Micah and the OL with Zack.

What bugs me is the refusal to even consider drafting a QB to put pressure on Dak. It’s loser thinking, and recent NFL history shows drafting a QB when you already have one can be a very successful strategy.

I mean I think they have considered drafting a QB. It's just they clearly don't prioritize it enough to actually take one. When the fourth round comes around and they can take a QB or Fehoko they take Fehoko and wait until the QB they want is gone. Meanwhile Fehoko looks like a total redshirt.

Super hard to win a championship with a QB as inconsistent as Dak. One week he can look elite, the next like dogshit.

I don't think he's inconsistent - it doesn't seem to come from nowhere so much as it is certain defenses have the ability to shut him down. More or less the top 5 or 10 defenses tend to give him problems and he and the coaches need to figure it out.

If you decide Dak isn’t it, you trade him and use your ammo and go get a rookie in the first. This team is good enough that the rookie is well supported and not thrown to the wolves.

I mean I agree, if you let Dak go free agency certainly isn't going to fill that void. And you can't just cut a QB of Dak's value. Or at least you sure as shit shouldn't. So if you're done with Dak you need to get enough ammo in return to go get a guy. If that is a rookie you hope by year 2 the guy is ready to take off like a Joe Burrow type. Otherwise you're sort of searching again.

Out of curiosity, what you think the Cowboys could get for Dak by trading him?

He is not inconsistent in the way that the word in terms of a QB is defined.

That was what we had with Tony Romo. Good Tony or Bad Tony. Look out for his pensive face because you knew what the fuck that meant. And what elite defenses did he carve up? He failed repeatedly in one and done games, which were nothing of the kind.

With Prescott, aside from last year, is a pretty consistent QB. Not elite, rarely will have look like dogshit and throw 4-5 picks in a game (ala Romo, again).

If Dak isn't the guy, why would somebody trade for him? I mean, I get taking a chance on a guy in a reclamation project, but if that's what it is, why would somebody give us high enough picks where we could use that as ammo to move up for somebody?

Typically trades that include going up for a rookie involves a dance partner with two firsts and a QB who would be in the market to bail on a potential franchise QB in the draft. And that team will not have an interest in dropping down far.

But hey. A team could be so dogshit bad AND maybe, just maybe not want a QB. And trade with the Cowboys who likely would not be in the top ten.

It could happen. And stuff.

I'm asking it as a real question not a trick question. If the Cowboys used whatever draft picks they could get for Dak and then added their current number one and number two, maybe that puts the Cowboys in the position to get one of the better prospects in the draft . Maybe it would take the Cowboys number one this year and next along with whatever they got for Dak. I'm curious what people think the realistic scenario would be.

I think it's still almost impossible if you have a good year and are at the bottom of the round.

If you get a year like 2020 where everyone on the team is hurt and you're already about 10-12, maybe it's possible.

If only there'd been a good prospect who fell because of an injury but would be okay next year after redshirting and learning the system...

Because Dak is at least as good as Deshaun Watson and they got 3 1s, a 3, and a 4 for him.

Yeah, the Texans roster was shit and bridges were burned. Seems like if the Cowboys suddenly said they want to trade Dak that everyone would assume there must be something wrong. Plus Jerry blows at trading. When is the last time we traded away a player for anything of real value? We fucking killed Coopers trade value to shit.

The way to do it is to use your 2nd round pick on a QB.

First thing, it sends a message: No one is safe, and everyone competes.

Second, it gives you a talented backup.

Third, your top guy can’t hold you hostage during negotiations, especially if the draftee turns out to be pretty good.

Fourth, if your top guy responds, you’ll have no trouble trading your soon to be seasoned backup.

Eagles have done this three times in my memory, each time resulting in either a successful trade or new starting QB.

The Pats did this with Jimmy G, Whackers did it with Rodgers and with Love.

If your starter gets butt hurt like a little bitch after the draft, or your locker room divides, then your starter isn’t a Superbowl QB anyway.

Wait, if he is no good and expensive, why would we get a haul again?

Cause other teams don’t always look at the right things. They will see raw passing numbers or divisional round appearances and think he’s their solution. Look at Minnesota signing Cousins for example.

The Eagles got a first and third for a broken down Wentz. We could probably get more.
