Dream backfields typically don't work, and we were no exception. Tony was a fumbler early in his career but overcame it.
Calvin Hill and Duane Thomas never really materialized as a dream backfield either. Calvin Hill's big toe ....

Prime Tony Dorsett is the one I always wanted to see. By the time I was old enough to follow and appreciate football, he was on his last legs in Dallas and Herschel was taking over.
He was so quick and fast. Always a threat to take it all the way. One of his strengths was that he typically avoided head-on collisions. It was some sort of innate knack (probably shared with other running backs who have long careers).

Funny they do it before they deal with Martin.

This is the last year of Diggs' rookie contract. They needed to get it done before the season ended otherwise he hits FA or gets franchise tagged.

I don't wish I was any older, but man I wish I could have seen Lilly play.
I saw last portion of his career, including the two Super Bowls. He was very quick off the line. He often got penetration and tackles for losses. His last year or two in the league he was still capable, but past his prime. Obviously there were some very memorable plays (e.g., tossing his helmet in an uncharacteristic moment of complete frustration, sacking Griese), but I think the most memorable thing about him as a player is that he was such a class act. Humble, soft-spoken, determined, focused. He was all about team success. He has saint-like status in Cowboys history not only for what he did, but how he carried himself as he did it.

In my first of many trips to rehab in the 90s, I was there with Bob Lilly's son.
