Especially the guy on the right. "Those stigmas are hard to overcome."These guys sound like clowns. Hard to listen to more than about 2 minutes.
They are millennial hipster types, to be sure. PBR should be their designated ironic sponsor. The one on the right is Nate Tice, son of Mike Tice (the former TE and Vikings head coach).Especially the guy on the right. "Those stigmas are hard to overcome."
Stigmas he mostly admits aren't really based in fact, but in narrative. Great argument, dude.
On the other hand, Payton showed resourcefulness and creativity after Brees retired and managed to have credible offensive production despite chaos at QB (Jameis Winston, Teddy Bridgewater, Tysom Hill). And, unlike McCarthy, Payton didn't lose his team.
I'm a big Sean Payton fan but McCarthy has done something in Dallas that we have not seen from Payton yet.
If McCarthy can turn around the culture in Dallas, he will be remembered in the same breath as Payton. Payton gets more plaudits because he is flashier and is seen as more of an innovator than McCarthy, but if he can get Dallas to the Super Bowl (or win), I feel he will be remembered as a truly great coach.

'Stigmas are hard to overcome' is millennial hipster speak for 'he got a reputation that he hasn't been able to shake.'
A main observation was that the tenures of McCarthy and Payton ended much differently. McCarthy crashed, burned and got fired mid-season as a caustic Rodgers freelanced more and more (sometimes checking out of plays and into plays that the coaching staff did not recognize). On the other hand, Payton showed resourcefulness and creativity after Brees retired and managed to have credible offensive production despite chaos at QB (Jameis Winston, Teddy Bridgewater, Tysom Hill). Right, the real reason is that Payton is younger, thinner, and has carefully crafted his media image. Mike isn't, isn't, and hasn't.1. Mike is fat; Payton is not.
2. Mike had a bad relationship with Rodgers; Payton had a good relationship with Brees.
3. Mike was fired; Payton was not.
When Fat Mike left, Aaron immediately improved--winning back-to-back MVPs. Probably not a coincidence. As far as the QB relationship, it should matter that Brees is a super nice guy and Rodgers is a narcissistic diva who has gotten one head coach fired and demanded to be traded from the team of the other.
Did the team go farther than it had under Mike? When Fat Mike left, Aaron immediately improved--winning back-to-back MVPs. Probably not a coincidence.
they made an NFC Champ Game, something that eludes usDid the team go farther than it had under Mike?

How does a coach, any coach, turn around a culture that's been embedded, branded, on the organization since the mid-90s? Parcells tried to turn the culture around, until Jerry declared he "just wasn't having fun anymore." End of culture turnaround.
An organization's culture starts at the very top. When training camp opens and Jerry is sitting alongside McCarthy in front of the microphones, you'll know the culture hasn't changed.
You think the culture here is the same as in the Campo years? How does a coach, any coach, turn around a culture that's been embedded, branded, on the organization since the mid-90s? I think McCarthy is a big part of why things are going better with the Cowboys these days. And unlike Payton, McCarthy has managed to have two 12 win seasons with a totally different team and QB. The ability to do that is more significant to me than losing a diva QB like Rodgers who has an ego bigger than everyone on this board added together.
