That's insane but this team definitely is one that rolls downhill when they get a lead, but will sputter along if playing from behind.
It shows you that being ahead plays to the strengths of the defense. Old Cowboys would do that and the defense would come in and choke them until they turned blue.

Yeah, we haven't been a team that's truly led with its defense since the 70's. That defense was actual Doomsday.

Even the highly ranked 90's defenses really counted on waves of depth and the offense to build a lead.

The 90s versions didn’t have the Bob Lilly, Randy White, Ed Jones, Harvey Martin types.

The 90s versions included 2 HOFers, plus another that should be in, and that's not even mentioning a guy like Lett who was among the best at his position.

Which of the two hall of famers was drafted by the Cowboys ? And do you think Lett was better than the three lineman I mentioned : White , Jones or Martin? And oh yeah, Bob MFing Lilly.

What does drafting have to do with it? Maybe I missed something.

I'm not saying the 90s defenses were better than the 70s, just saying they were damn good in their own right.

You said they didn't have those HOF type guys, I'm saying they did.

The Denver Broncos are widely expected to part ways with head coach Vic Fangio and begin a coaching search this week, multiple league sources said, with several indicating Cowboys coordinator Dan Quinn will quickly emerge as a top candidate there.

Quinn, who reached the Super Bowl as head coach of the Falcons, has done great work in his first season running the Cowboys defense, and his demeanor and personality would be a significant change from Fangio, who is more gruff and old-school. Quinn's style of communication is quite different, and he is expected to garner heavy interest in a multitude of searches. He will not be taking part in the Jaguars head coaching search, according to sources, but is held in very high regard in Seattle, where he was a top assistant under Pete Carroll, should the Seahawks opt to make a change.

Shit.

Okay then, bring me Old Man Fangio in his place.

Mike Zimmer will be available. :lol
What we do not need is a Back To The Future Defensive Coordinator.

We have the most dangerous defensive weapon in football and that DC better know how to use him.

I like Zimmer, think he's an excellent coach, but McCarthy seems to really want the 34, and that's not Zim.

Does seem like Fangio would be a big change from the relatable Quinn, though.

I know. But how many proven good DCs are relatable?

You have to wonder if Quinn does go, it strips us of two other good coaches in Whitt and Al Harris who I do think can relate to players.

Good point about who would go with him.

Maybe they'd even promote Whitt with his ties to MM. Feels like all too often those promotions to first time coordinator fails, though.

Harris is more a McCarthy guy than Quinn I think.

I'd prefer Fangio but Zimmer would be a perfectly fine choice. He used Anthony Barr quite creatively over the years so I think he'd be able to get plenty out of Parsons.

Count me as someone who hopes Zimmer is nowhere on the list. Been there, done that.
Fangio’s Defenses always seem to play hard, and he ate Daks lunch so there’s that.
But I’d be surprised if Quinn bails after one season based on his comments.
He was pretty humbled there at the end of his Atlanta gig…I imagine with the way Atlanta choked in the SB, then the team falling apart….the pressure and everything that goes with it. He probably jets at some point but I just would think he’s nuts to bolt to Denver whose Team is in a bit of disarray, or Seattle who most likely loses Wilson after this season. Seems like 2 very low reward/high pressure coaching stops.
