All that needs to be said is that Aikman's talent level far exceeded Romo's. Want proof? Number 1 overall draft pick vs not drafted at all. Not saying Romo wasn't talented, that much was obvious. but, had Troy gone to a team that required him to do the things Tony did, there's no doubt he could have not only done them, but I sincerely believe he would have done more.
That coul also be interpreted as saying Romo not being drafted out performed a number one. Which by the way he did. It's not a knock on Aikman it's just one persons observation based on another persons request to evaluate.

He can't even catch a thief.

:unsure

:lol

Can't make this shit up.

"Thin" means a veneer of talent, i.e. a lack of depth...Same thing happened the very next year. In 2009 it looked like we were set at RB, but Barber and Jones were injured off and on all year.

We finished 2009 on a 4-game win streak, defeating the undefeated Saints, posting two shutouts and beating down the Eagles again and winning the playoff game by halftime. Our defense finished #2 best in points allowed and #9 best in yards allowed.

According to you, this is mostly Romo with little contribution from his worn down, downtrodden, infirmary cast of very thin talent.

Again, not saying we had Super Bowl bound talent as we got deservedly beat down by the Vikings.

I think it's nonsense to claim that Romo was rarely surrounded by a talented roster. The Cowboys provided him with a decent amount of talent throughout his career.

Aside for a couple of years, the Cowboys usually placed over 5 guys on Pro Bowl rosters. Very comparable to many of the Super Bowl winners during that time frame. In some cases the number of Cowboys on the Pro Bowl roster dwarfed the number of representatives from the Super Bowl winning team.

If you want to point fingers at personnel who held him back, look no further than his coaching staff and team ownership. Blame Jerry and his red-headed stepson for squandering Romo's career. Remove Jerry from the equation and insert a quality coach, doesn't even have to be GOAT Belichick, a John Harbaugh would do. Give Romo that and I'm willing to bet that he'd be sporting a Super Bowl ring or two.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure I acknowledged 07, 09 and 14 we're talented rosters. The other years, not so much. Even in 09 the offensive line fell apart and that was our undoing.

Even when we had talent it always seemed there was some aspect of the team that was subpar and we couldn't overcome. QB was never one of those aspects.

07 was the only team Romo was a part of that didn't have a critical flaw. A bad oline or terrible defense or both.

Now other QBs can and have overcome similar problems (Kurt Warner, or Matt Ryan this year). I think he could too if he wasn't so injury prone. Unfortunately having a shitty oline between 2010-2012 really exacerbated Romo's health issues.

Payton Manning used to over come poor Oline play by getting the ball out of his hand quickly and on time. Romo was great for us but very few teams are flawless.

LT, you and I agree on many things, but this isn't one of them. Romo put up high stat totals during his career because that was the way he and the team operated during his tenure. But, the ultimate goal of the game of football is to win championships. And that there is no doubt Troy's team did more successfully. Tony's is a great story, that ended in semi tragic fashion. But he in no way shape or form out performed Aikman. Aikman did what he had to do to get his teams to the championship and win it. Tony never did.

Even in 09 the running game was very inconsistent and couldn't really be counted on to the extent that the Falcons could rely on their running game this year, plus Romo didn't have a Julio Jones. The Vikings were also just a really good team that year, they turned the ball over like 5 times and still would've beaten the eventual champion Saints on the road in the NFCC if not for Favre's idiocy in the last minute of the 4th.

The 2007 team was the most complete although at that point Romo was still kind of a dumbass and prone to idiotic mistakes/sulking when things started going poorly. 2009 was solid for sure but the talent level slowly deteriorated between 2008-2010 thanks to Phillips/Jerry reasserting control over personnel after Parcells left and that 09 team was not nearly as complete offensively.

They weren't able to dig out of that hole and rebuild the talent until about 2013/14, and we all know what happened in the playoffs in 2014.

Basically in 2007 Romo was still kind of raw/immature, in 2009 the talent level had already started deteriorate from the heights of 2007, 2010-12 or 13 were pretty bad teams that Romo kept afloat pretty much on his own and then 2014 was for all intents and purposes his last shot.

Long story short, Romo was too green to take advantage of the roster Parcells built, then carried some poor teams through the years after that talent deteriorated, then was mostly at the end of the line once the talent got rebuilt after several years.

Didn't watch it, might be off-season bullshit filler, but here you go.

Championships are won by teams and Coaches playing together. It's not something you can attribitute to or blame solely on the Quarterback position. I have maintained that my evaluation was based solely on the individuals performance at the position. In addition it was a consideration that the entire season was how I compiled my opinion. Finally, at the on set I conceded that the important thing for the team and Coaches as well as the fans, winning championships was the goal.

My evaluation was simply the player and what they accomplished at that position to reach my conclusion. It was just an opinion and not a statement to convince anyone else that they had to accept.

Two individuals who played the same position for the same franchise, so who was the better position player period? Team accomplishments were not a factor.

This team did a pretty good job of wasting Romo and Ware's careers, how bout that?

All that greatness from those guys and shit to show for it.

the irony is that "Lucky" is typically a dog's name

The Cowboys/Green Bay divisional playoff game from January with a not so happy ending is on NFLN now. If you can stomach it.

Would you consider the Packers last year to have very thin talent? They had a backup WR as RB, missing a healthy Jordy Nelson most of the playoffs and only had three Pro Bowlers.

Fuck off.

Off-season is quickly coming to an end. Time to get the ornery-DCC back.
