Yep, I read the dictionary when I was a kid. I have become a bit of an internet grammar and spelling Nazi over the years. :)

Please don't tell me how it ends I'm up to Vesuvius, don't spoil it for me.

So true. I'd completely forgot the circumstances surrounding Alvin Harper's long catch and run. I remember it being a big play which essentially sealed the game, but I'd forgotten those little details.

It was the very first play of the drive following the 49ers TD which had cut the lead to 4. Cowboys were on their own 20 and needed at least 2 first downs to put the game away. San Fran had all the momentum and Candlestick was rocking.

Conventional wisdom would say play it a bit safe and work the clock with Emmitt and the great OL, but Troy and the 'Boys came out slinging it through the air. I think that probably caught the 49ers off-guard.

One of the many shows that talked about that game, Norv Turner was saying before the start of the drive, he had been on the radio with Jimmy and asked basically how Jimmy wanted that drive handled - conservative and eat the clock or stay aggressive. Jimmys only response was "I want to score."

Hence the first down pass and the rest is history. Absolute greatness.

Less than a week before rooks report for TC, a week for veterans. Four weeks until the first preseason game on NFLN. I'm jonesing for some football to the point of watching game replays of teams I don't even like.

Tick, tock, tick tock.

That's my style of football. When you have the ball you try to score. Bury your opponent.

I agree, but there are other factors involved in decision making. You have to understand the personnel you have and play to it. Like when you're up by 19 or whatever going into the second half of a game and you run the ball 7 times in the second half. Yes, step on their throats, balance it with smart play calling.

You always play to your strengths and never get predictable. Above all if you have the game in tow you never play a prevent defensive game. That almost ensures your opponent an opportunity to score.

I like a coach with killer instinct. Go out there and put them away. The problem is Romo was always streaky, when he was great he was unstoppable. But it was like we were always waiting for him to throw a pick six.

Most of Tony's career he was asked to carry a team that had very thin talent. Streaks were inevitable.

By 2014 the bad streaks could totally be attributed to injuries, and he was consistently good outside of those because the team didn't need him to carry them anymore.

In that Detroit playoff game he faced a superior defense, his OL had a bad game giving up 5 sacks, Murray had under 4 YPC, and yet you could feel Romo was going to retake the lead in the 4th quarter. Most importantly he threw no picks.

Yeah, honestly after 2010 I always felt like Romo's health was his limiting factor. 2014 was the first season where he was "mostly" healthy (as healthy as a starting NFL QB in his 30s with a bad back can be), and I think that's why we finally got that late season run we've been waiting for from the Cowboys.

Romo was as good as any player in the league during that stretch, and as much as I'm ecstatic to see Dak take over the team, because of his youth/health and because he played like a seasoned vet, I think there's a tendency to forget the elite level Romo has performed at.

Exaggeration.

2007 is Romos first year as full time starter: 13-3
2008: 9-7 with Brooks Bollinger/Brad Johnson going 1-2
2009: 11-5
2010: Horrible year all around
2011: 8-8 with Romo to blame for turnovers against NY Jets and embarrassing comeback by Lions
2012: 8-8
2013: 8-8 with Romo's infamous GB INT, Kyle Orton starting Week 17 vs PHI
2014: 12-4
2015: Romo's crippled
2016: Dak

In 3 seasons, we're division champs, 2 seasons as #1 seed. In 3 other seasons, we miss playoffs because of Romo injuries and/or Romo really bungled up a couple games. I really only see two years where we just flat out sucked.

Not saying we were Super Bowl contenders, but we were far from 'very thin talent' like some expansion team or perennial 4-12 1990s Bengals team for 'most' of Romo's career. Romo's offenses were solid and we were one impact defensive player or better coaching away from being deep playoff contenders. This 'very thin talent' comment is preposterous.

Yup.

I think Ravi is a smart guy, but he's just been on this thing for a year now where he makes gross exaggerations.

Whether it's this, Dak's rookie season, or even our 90's O-line, Ravi just goes down the hyperbole road all the time now.

Right. During Romo's tenure, we consistently complained of underperforming and coming up small in December, not being some shithole team with Romo being this diamond surrounded by trash.

Romo is not Archie Manning 2.0

Funny how the narrative has changed now that Romo has retired.

Romo is a great QB, not all-timer, who played on a decent team, but not talented enough or well-coached enough. We were inconsistent and sloppy.

You tell me what the fuck the narrative is. Romo>>>>>>>>Montana throwing to borderline starters Witten, TO and Dez.

And this shit about Romo > Aikman is also stupid.

Criticizing Aikman Like an inferior QB could've come in and outdueled HOFers Kelly, Young and Favre in the playoffs. Our teams, aside from Aikman, were great, but so were our playoff opponents. Takes a HOF QB to beat those HOF QBs.

It took Romo finally more seasons to mature and be that all-timer QB in 2014, but by then too late and too brittle. Don't lose the fact that Aikman was ready by Year 4. Stick Romo on the Cowboys in 1989 and we don't win our first two Super Bowls, at the very least. And, like Aikman, Romo isn't taking Gailey's Cowboys to the promised land.

Perhaps you don't remember Aikman after the SB team talent was no longer around because they were siphoned off to other teams. His last three seasons were very average and he didn't resemble himself. I sat through most of these games and watched him get crushed in several games. Some to the extent that the home crowd booed him.

He was a target for most defenses and almost immobile because of back conditions. His stats were average or below and he looked like he wasn't going to make it through a lot of the games. So yeah in games performed by Romo in his latter years he looked and played much better than Aikman.

No. I remember perfectly well. And if you want to say Romo at his finest is better than Aikman at his worst, I won't disagree.
