2017 Mock Drafts

Several years ago that would have got you banned.

It did almost get me banned once. I had only been posting like a year, and called Kiper a hack or something and SBK fucking came unglued. :lol

I really like McShay's, although I think I'm starting to lean towards Harris over Taco Charleton. But really, who could complain about either?

What's causing you to now start leaning towards Harris?

That's my preference.

For me I'd rank it like this:

Barnett
Charlton/McKinley just about even
Harris/Watt just about even

I lean slightly towards Charlton over McKinley due to the injury and Harris slightly over Watt but I'd be fine with either/or if those were the only two on the board.

I am not educated enough, admittedly, but I have Barnett, Charlton, McKinley and Harris all just about even, and kinda like "Which flavor of ice cream do you prefer?"

DC.com says Charlton is more of a left end or 3-4 end FWIW.

I don't see any of them as 15 sack guys. They are all more 8-10 sack REs (besides Charlton, who is a LE), really.

Just think he may be a slightly better pass rusher. I think Taco has the higher ceiling but I just think Harris is more of a sure fire RE that we need. But my opinion may change by tomorrow. Just that time of year and I really like both guys.

I put Barnett just a notch above the other 3. I think Mckinley is probably my third favorite of the Taco, Harris, McKinley group. I just love the way that Barnett is able to bend and turn the corner. And for people who are concerned he doesn't have the "explosion" to do that in the NFL, he was producing big sack numbers in the SEC and turning the corner more than any other DE in this class. I don't get the dislike when it comes to Barnett. To me this is a Suggs situation where people are caring way too much about workout numbers. He may be the best pure pass rusher in this draft, his production certainly says so. And they weren't "cheap sacks" which I saw a number of with McKinley.

I'd be happy with any of the group of Barnett, McKinley, Charlton, Watt, and Harris. I'd put Barnett a little above as my first choice, but as for the others, I really don't have a preference. Just give me one out of that group, and I'm happy.

I wonder what number we'll give Melifonwu?

Shut your mouth.

Also I just don't see Watt in that same group.

If most of the pass-rushers are off the board I wouldn't hate Melifonwu, I think he gets a bad rap.

His athletic testing was elite, yet he wasn't dominant on the field so people just think he's some hyped up workout warrior, but that isn't really the case. Yea, he takes poor angles in the run games at times and his instincts in deep coverage aren't ideal, but the guy is a sure, explosive, wrap up tackler who I've seen read/diagnose plays quickly. He also has the speed and range to play deep at times, certainly in cover-2 looks, but that shouldn't be too much of what he's doing in the NFL because he should be within 10-15 yards of the LOS most of the time.

I could easily come up with similar complaints of Peppers or Baker.

I'll say this, I've seen Melifonwu lined up as the single-high and show the range to get to the sideline to break up a pass or intercept the ball, and I've seen him diagnose run plays/screens at the LOS and attack downhill quickly to make tackles for short or no gain. He isn't just some guy bumbling around on the field who runs fast in a straight line.

If the team takes him in the first, I won't throw a fit or anything. I really like Melifonwu, and would love to have him on the team. I just don't love him as a first rounder over one of the pass rushers. If he's still there in the 2nd? Hell yeah. Sign me up.

Maybe not.

Maybe we could trade down with Cleveland so they can get their first round QB, and we take Watt at the top of the 2nd... They can give us their 3rd and 5th. :mj

I actually think I like Obi more than you. I think the guy is basically everything you want in a safety. His instincts are improving year to year as well. I've seen the guy lay some wood, I've seen him cover a lot of ground in a hurry. He tallied four INTs which is solid for a safety and he also had a lot of tackles. He is basically the complete safety who can cover at a high level and stop the run at a high level. I see the potential for him to be a probowl NFL safety. And sure, the elite speed and crazy high jumping ability are great too. I think if he played at Ohio State or Alabama we would be talking top 10-15 pick. Guys at UConn don't get as much pub.

But I'd still prefer Barnett, Harris or Taco over him. We need to build the pass rush and to me those guys are at least as good if not better prospects.

Yeah, I think Watt is sort of a borderline first round pick now. If we could trade down a little and get him I'd be thrilled.

I think there is a very deep group of guys who would be good value in the 40ish range but aren't ideal at 28.

I'd put Melifonwu in there along with a bunch of CB's (King, White, Tankerseley, Awuzie, Wilson, Jackson), then you got Baker at safety, some pass-rushers in Lawson, Watt, Basham, maybe even Bowser. There are a bunch of names on defense who I would be kinda meh about at 28 but would be really happy to get them along with an additional pick if we could jump down to about the 38-45 range.

you heard it here first - pass rushers are going to go quick in the mid first and we are going to trade up in order to get a guy like Barnett or McKinley. We give up our 3rd rounder to move up about 6-10 picks

I can't explain how opposed I am to this. IF that's the case and Harris, Taco, Mckinley will all be gone by our pick in the first then so be it. I'd rather stay put and get Watt than to give up a third to move up and get one of those guys.

As much as I like those guys, I would hate this. The smart move is to try and gather picks in a draft like this, not give them away.

Absolutely.
