Cowboys Nostalgia Thread

I just clicked on NFLN and it is A Football Life and it shows Charles Haley picking on George Hegamin.

Then you see Garrett waltzing by talking about how that footage would never be able to be aired.

Haley was crazy, but he had an art to it. Whether it was shitting or peeing into some dude's car to teasing Montana about his wife giving birth to a long nosed infant, that MF did not care. I never appreciated the fact that Haley was aiming that helmet at Jerry Jones after the first couple of games with Derrick Lassic.

i remember that clip. That was from a show called “Six Days to Sunday” if I’m not mistaken. Before they played the Vikings in MN. Haley was saying how Aikman would be running for his life if they put Hegamin in the game. Hilarious and I’m sure George wasn’t happy about it but Haley liked to call out guys that weren’t pulling their weight.

Also Kevin Williams gets off a good line at Haley: “Just cuz you got a head shaped like a bullet don’t make ya a big short there boyyy”
Pretty sure he said "big shot". :unsure

PSA, try 32:25... Unless you want your first shot to be of Garrett :mad

Aikman's pre-game ritual, as told to Rich Eisen.

Couple things that I always did on game day was:
1. Arrive at stadium 3 hours before kickoff. I still do today as a broadcaster
2. Always took 2 Tylenol 2 hours before kickoff
3. Each year, whoever pulled my jersey over my shoulder pads for the first preseason game just before taking the field, that person would have to pull my jersey over the shoulder pads for every game after that for the rest of the season. Jason Garrett was that guy for many years while he was my teammate. I remember one game he went down on the field before pregame warm-ups and got caught up talking to various players and coaches on the other team and didn't make it up to the locker room in time to get my jersey pulled over my shoulder pads so I had to have someone else do it for me. I was really upset. I passed Jason in the tunnel on my way down to the field (as he was heading back up to the locker room to get his pads on) and I told him that "if we lose this game today, it's all on you!"...we won the game and had a big laugh about it on the flight home.

Go to the :55 second mark.

Two UFOs appeared live on national TV during the CBS broadcast of the Dallas Cowboys vs Pittsburgh Steelers game at Three Rivers Stadium on October 28th, 1979.
The two commentators for CBS during that game were Pat Summerall and Tom Brookshier.
The UFOs first appear at the :55 second mark, during the fourth quarter, when they cut back to the game after the commercial break:
Pat Summerall: "I want you to explain that to me."
Tom Brookshier: "I'm afraid to. This is sort of a Twilight Zone football game here...(long pause) Those were some kind of... Well, I don't know what they were. Pittsburgh?"
Pat Summerall: "I don't know either. (pause) This is where the rivers come together, but I didn't know about THAT!"
Tom Brookshier tries to change the subject to Art Rooney, because his brain is breaking.
At the 1:55 mark, Pat Summerall: shouts: "What ARE those things flying around up there?"
Tom Brookshier replies: "They're just some kind of... illusion."
Pat Summerall: "I hope we get another look at them...."
Tom Brookshier once again tries desperately to change the subject.
Then, at the 2:20 mark, one of the cameramen working the game (god bless him) ZOOMS ALL THE WAY IN on the two UFOs hovering over the stadium.
Pat Summerall: "There it is! Now what is that?"
Tom Brookshier: "It keeps saying 'Take us to your leader!' I don't know what..."
Pat Summerall: "That's another guy we should hire, whoever is responsible for that!"
The guys in the control room throw the footage up again behind the final score at the end of the game, at the 25 second mark of this clip :
Here's the initial static shot of the UFOs slowed down:

Pittsburgh beat Dallas, 14 to 3. I wonder if those ufonauts had money on the game?
This one goes out to all the people who ask "Why don't they just show themselves to a huge crowd of people at some big sporting event?"

I think that's the game where we sacked Moon nine times

My initial reaction is that they're just birds because they seem kind of small and it seems a little like wings flapping.

But the slowed down versions...have some strange things going on.

Anyways, another underappreciated Cowboy was Everson Walls.

I hate it he has been immortalized as the guy who was victimized by "The Catch".

I also hate it he will get shafted for the Hall because of it, despite a damn good resume otherwise.

Him and Downs were the reason I wanted to be a DB as a preteen.

Houston is really butthurt right now because the rumors are that the Titans are going to wear Oilers throwbacks this year.

I think Cleveland/ Baltimore did it right.

Tennessee with Oilers throwbacks seems ridiculous to me. I doubt anyone associates the Oilers with Tennessee or the Titans.
