Cowboys Nostalgia Thread

Pure cover ability I disagree. But Woodson was a really good all around football player in general.
Put Rod Woodson right up there with either. Lockdown corner, physical safety, 6 time all pro, most interceptions of the three.

Rod and Deion were each six time first team all pro's (SICK), Charles managed it only three times (hard to believe that few).

Hard to know any of their full impact on plays not made because they were all awesome in coverage. All three were DPOY one year, only Charles pulled DROY.

Deion had the most interception return yardage, though both Woodsons have double Deion's tackles, and each Woodson had a year leading the league in interceptions (Prime never did).

Charles had 33 forced fumbles, Rod, 20, and Deion 10.

Rod had 4 TD's on 480 K/P returns, Deion had 9 on 367, and Charles had 0 on 95.

These guys were simply unreal football players.

Y'all are underrating what Deion was. He was not only the best corner to ever play the game, but he was a return nightmare and also played both sides of the ball. As far as nothing but CB goes, I can have the debate with you. But, if you're factoring in all a CB brought to your team, no one else is even in the conversation.

Yeah, Woodson was a great corner. Deion Sanders was exceptional.

It was not just the coverage ability, the threat to score was incredible. 9 pick sixes, another 9 on special teams.

It is really not open for debate if you go off the complete game.

I don't see how anyone could debate that. But, if you are just talking corner position only, nothing else factored in, I can see a debate. But, even that debate to me would be a reach. I have never seen a player close on the ball faster than him. He was unreal.

I'm strictly comparing their skills as DBs.

If you factor in KR and WR skills, it's Deion by a decent margin. But if we're talking about what they brought to the table at DB, they're close in my eyes.

I can't argue "close".

Rod Woodson returned 12 picks for TDs compared with Deion’s 9 and lead the league in picks twice. He also had more picks total than Prime, and 10 more FF, and Rod has the NFL record for fumble recoveries (32 compared to Deions 13)

Deion was great, but Rod was equally dangerous and fast, minus the hype, and a whole lot more physical with twice the tackles.

Their DPOY seasons were back to back, but because Deion’s was in SF and super flashy to begin with plus all the drama vs Dallas in 1994 he drew a ton more hype.

As a DB, Rod could compare. As a player, not even close.

The only athlete I have ever seen anywhere close to Deion in terms of overall athletic ability was Bo Jackson.

You can't definitively compare stats at CB. A lot of teams wouldn't even throw at Deion. Yes, every great corner gets avoided to some degree but not like Deion.

Both Charles Woodson and Rod Woodson were fantastic players in their own right, and both were more complete defensive backs.

But for me, it's the MJ vs Lebron analogy....sure Lebron might be a more complete player than MJ was, but if you have ONE game to win it all, you're taking MJ every time right?

Same here. If it's the SB and I can only pick one CB to play that day, I'm taking Deion every single time.

I'd say Bo was a better overall athlete than Deion.

Yeah, I'd agree.

He was bigger and stronger and yet more often than not, he was the fastest guy on the field.

Bo Jackson is definitely a top 3 athlete of all time.

Which had the better baseball career?

I'm okay with that. Bo was ridiculous at everything he tried.

If Bo would have dedicated himself completely to football, (and didn't suffer the fluke injury) he very well may have been the greatest RB of all time. And on the flip side of the coin, just how great would he have been if he went baseball full time?

A truly remarkable, once in a lifetime athlete.
