He is a project. You don't take projects in the 1st.
 
I 100% agree that we shouldn't take Smith at 24 but it does seem that the league as a whole values him as a late 1 with it being rumored that he won't get past Tennessee at 26.

I wouldn't do it but that does seem to be the reality.

Agreed. He is getting pushed up because of the number of teams that need/want tackles and the number of them available.

Yeah Burks would not be optimal either. But I would take him over Smith there.
 
The obvious options for us in the scenario Schrager lays out are Kenyon Green, Nakobe Dean and Karlaftis. I'd be shocked if we took Smith over Green.

Yea the only saving grace is that Smith at least theoretically projects as the type of OL I've been wanting us to take high in the last year or two, in terms of a guy who can start off at LG while having the potential to shift to LT in the next 2ish years.

With that said, we shouldn't take him at 24, just too much of a risk considering how the front office is basically banking on finding about 3 immediate contributors/starting-caliber players in this class.

I don't disagree, although I think if Dallas viewed him as a first rounder we would have brought him in for the 30 visit. I think NFL teams are desperate for guys who can legit play NFL LT and so someone may reach based on his potential. Hell it's why I would consider him in the second. Still scares the shit out of me but I also realize he has that potential and I could plug him in at LG because of his natural power and strength.

Just way too risky for me in the first. And I don't think the Cowboys are interested in the first either.

Linderbaum is a center-only prospect who won’t become a long-term replacement for any of those linemen, but he would be an upgrade over Tyler Biadasz at center. The Cowboys’ offensive line was at its best when they had former first-rounder Travis Frederick quarterbacking the unit. Even though he lacks ideal size or length, Linderbaum is the best center prospect over the past several drafts and has outstanding movement skills for the position.

Depending on what O-lineman are left on the board at 24 I think trading back may be a good idea. If say Kenyon Green, Zion Johnson and Tyler Linderbaum are all still available I'm moving back. I'm not sure I have enough preference between Green and Johnson to make the decision between the two if they are both available. I'd rather move back risking one of them being gone. And honestly an extra third in this draft would be very helpful. Dallas really needs it because of the holes we created this offseason. We need at least 2 young O-lineman, a WR and probably a couple more D-lineman and a LBer. That's a lot to do without more picks on the first two days.
 
They have the Bucs taking Zion with our pick.
