The Texas market is already flooded. They would make it worse.

It is pretty much equivalent to the franchise system allowing 3 pizza joints on the same block.
Additionally, Houston will immediately become a noteworthy contender in the crappy Big 12. They are in a great position to weaken the remaining Texas Big 12 teams. Tech, TCU and Baylor are not blue blood teams like OU and UT so that makes them direct competitors for what is left.

... We don't know the details of how this will happen, but the expectation within the Big 12 is that BYU, Cincinnati, Houston and UCF will be part of the league in time for the 2023 football season. BYU, as it is an independent, could be in the Big 12 as early as next season. The meetings and asks have all taken place. This is imminent.
... There was some opposition of varying degrees to Houston's addition to the Big 12. Ultimately, while the vast data they all poured over indicated that Houston was a clear No. 4 among the four soon-to-be additions, it also showed a massive drop-off between Houston and any other possible option. There was a clear gap after those top four and it was conveyed that adding four was needed which gets me to my next point.

I guess that is where we are now, expansion while maintaining the option to take any phone call that comes your way.

I won’t be surprised at all going forward if the Texas Tech athletic department begins receiving a financial subsidy from the actual university and the same can be said about the state government funneling more money to Lubbock too. I’m unclear on the numbers involved but there is some thought they could end up making very close to or even more money overall than they were before. We’ll see as plenty on that front still needs to play out.
... One thing I’d file away, the Big 12 has already had discussions with the SEC about a scheduling alliance. I think long term, you can expect that as long as the Big 10, ACC and Pac 12 are working together on an alliance, the same can be said about the SEC and Big 12.
… As far as timetable, these potential new members are expected to file an application as early as next week and it would be voted on soon thereafter and the vote would be unanimous in support of adding all four members.

I don't know if they should be considered a Power 5 conference anymore. No offense meant but that lineup of teams doesn't really equate to what the rest of the Power 5 has. Maybe a step above the AAC but not much different.

I wouldn’t vigorously argue that point. I don’t know what originally defined what a power 5 consisted of. Most fans strictly look at football as the indicator. Winking football games is only a part of the equation. There is so much more involved than that.
Anyhoo, we can all agree that the Big 12 sucks monkey balls. Give it a few years and they may be able to produce a few decent teams.

Yeah I don't know that there is much the Big 12 can do to really salvage the conference at this point. They can't really attract any big name programs in from one of the other Power 5 conferences. So they are going to be kind of stuck. Unfortunate for them and college football. Unlike the NFL I think college football is a lot about tradition and history and I hate seeing a what was once a big time conference basically being torn apart over money or whatever. I know some will disagree but when it comes to college football I hate extreme change and think the idea of super conferences like the SEC ruins a lot of the tradition of college football.

I'm an OU fan but I'll be rooting big time for the Big 12.
What's really the shame is that the original B12 had to blow up. That was a great conference, as good as anyone in their best days.
And FWIW, I don't think this is going to be as seamless an "upgrade" as OU fans think (and to some degree Texas also). There are going to be a lot of unforeseen consequences IMO.
